Windows 10: Why after I updated to Windows 11 22H2 the desktop didn't show? Explorer was running in...

My desktop never shown after I updated. Check the Windows explorer was open at task manager and it was. Can I get help?

Cannot update Windows 11 to build 22h2

Need more help than support web site offers. I would like to update a Windows Pro 21h2 to 22h2.

I've tried every suggestion at Troubleshoot problems updating Windows - Microsoft Support short of "Perfrom a clean installation of Windows 11." That list is comprehensive and includes everything I would have thought of on my own and then some. None of the troubleshooting suggestions solved the problem. The system in question is a Lenovo ThinkCentre M90n desktop running Windows 11 Pro Version 21H2.

In addition to all the steps at the above link, I've also tried installing by using Windows 11 Installation Assistant. Installation Assistant downloads and goes through the long installation process. But then very shortly after the reboot starts, it says, "Undoing changes" and boots back into the old build.

 

Windows 11 22h2 update not downloading and then not showing

I have been trying to download the 22h2 update but unsuccessfully. First, it showed up, showed some errors trying to download and then disappeared. Like a week later it showed up one more time, tried again to download it and, like the first time, it showed an error and finally disappeared. Two or three weeks later, it hasn't showed up again.

An additional information: every time I run the Windows Update Troubleshooter. it shows that that there is a problem and that "it was solved", but still there is no new sign of the 22h2 update.

I would hate to try downloading manually the update.

Currently I'm using an HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15-df1xxx from 2019, running Windows 11. The last update I got was the 2022-11 KB5019157 Cumulative Update.

Windows Explorer issues in Windows 11 22H2

I'm seeing lots of problems with the new tabbed Explorer in Windows 11, which sometimes can mean there will be a fix pushed out soon, or if you dont' want to take that chance it may be a wait then for ten days you can roll back Feature Update 22H2 in Settings > System > Recovery. One thing you can try is to choose View tab, then above the Explorer bar on left side, make sure Show All Folders is checked. If that's not enough try unchecking Explorer bar, restart Explorer, then go back to choose it again.

There are no dedicated repairs yet, but you can try these fixes that often work for File Explorer problems in Windows 11:

1) Right click Start button to open Task Manager, show More Details, then choose Processes tab, scroll down to Windows Processes, then further down almost to the bottom to Windows Explorer. Right click to Restart Explorer, then Restart PC.

4) Update your drivers from the PC maker's Support Downloads webpage for your exact model. While there check for the latest Chipset, BIOS, Sound, Network, USB3, Bluetooth and all other drivers to compare with the version/date installled for that device in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

If the drivers are not present or not working for Facial Recognition or Fingerprint then contact your PC manufacturer's Support.

5) Expedite install of all Windows Updates in Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates, including needed restarts, then go back to check again until no more are offered.

Then go into Microsoft Store app > My Library > Get Updates and expedite all Store app Updates, too, until no more are offered.

7) Establish a Clean Boot to turn off Startup Freeloaders that can conflict and cause issues:

8) Download, install and run a full scan with free Malwarebyes from Download Malware Removal 2023 | Free Antivirus Scan & Virus Protection Tool after enabling Root Kit scan in Scan Settings. Clean Up anything it finds and then run again. Turn off Real Time trial in Control panel to keep as on-demand scanner.
