Windows 10: Why can't I SET AS DEFAULT in sound devices my Sony TV.

I can SEE the Sony TV as an available device in SOUND, and I can see it is playing, but if selected, the option to set as default is greyed out.MY PROBLEMConnected to the TV via the HDMI cable, it will play audio, but ONLY after I disconnect then reconnect the HDMI cable.The procedureI fire-up the Dell Laptop, and with the lid up Turn the Sony TV on, and select the Laptops HDMI input, and the Laptops desktop appears on the TV minus any shortcuts, strangelyI then CLOSE the Laptops lid, and the desktop shortcuts appear, but SOUND still comes from the Laptop, not the TV?...UNTIL I remove the

My Sony TV is unable to be set as the default in SOUND DEVICES on my W10 Dell Laptop

Via SETTINGS>SYSTEMS>DISPLAY and SOUND, I select SOUND CONTROL; PANEL

to see (under PLAYBACK) a list of my connected devices.

My issue? I'm unable to set my TV as the default playback device.

I've connected my

Dell XPS L701X i5 M460 2.53GHz 8GB RAM 250GB SSD GT 435M GPU Windows 10 to my

Sony KD-50X72K TV via HDMI, but I find I have no sound when listening (if only) to BBC iPlayer radio.

IF I'm able to get/find the TV in the list of playback devices, it's without a green TICK, but a red down pointing arrow. IF I'm able to get the TV WITH a green tick, I can't set it as the DEFAULT device, and lose the connection the next day I fire it up HOWEVER I have found a work around...

I DISCONNECT the HDMI lead from the Laptop B4 I fire up, and (with the Sony TV on, with its HDMI line-in selected as LAPTOP, obviously with the HDMI lead still connected) I RE-connect the HDMI to the Laptop, and HEY PRESTO, not only is the Sony TV now in the list of playback devices, it has a GREEN TICK, AND AUDIO WORKS...BUT I STILL can't set it as "Default", as default is greyed-out and will have to go through the DISconnect/REconnect process again and again.

BTW

If I were to take my other Dell i3531 (as I did) that was connected to this Sony TV, AND any previous/subsequent set via HDMI, it connects both video/audio without issue.

BOTTOM LINE

I have a way of getting what I want, but how do I get this machine to accept the current (preferred "Audio Device" as the default.

no Sound on TV device mgr TV shows as media device not under sound


I can cast music to my Sony Bravia XBR 65x850b tv.
However when I have it as a a duplicate display sound I get on the speakers primary display does not come from the speakers on the TV.

On the device manager the TV shows as a media device.
However, the TV does not appear under sound.
Alll that shows under sound is
Speakers
Digital audio (S/PDIF). Digital audio is set as default

How can I have any sound on my PC desktop also come through my TV?

Do I disconnect my Speakers and have the sound come through my Samsung monitor?

What additional info might the list need to help solve this?

You know Greg, I find it curious that my TV (as a "sound" device) is the ONLY device in the list that has the option to "set as default" greyed out, but I have a cunning plan.

In the morning, B4 I boot-up, I'm going to unplug the HDMI from the Laptop, and simply reconnect a few seconds later.
