    Why do I get a runtime error when I try accessing a game via my file history?


    Recently a windows 10 update failed for me and now I’ve become paranoid of needing to reinstall windows to fix it (I can only delay the update for 35 days). So I wanted to back up one of my games that isn’t on Steam, I was told I can do this using file history and a flash drive, which I did, I decided to test it out and tried accessing the game via the flash drive, but it gave me a runtime error? When I try accessing it normally, it works fine though? Why is this?

    Also, is there any chance the windows 10 update will fix by itself if I try updating it again? Or am I going to have do a repair install?

    File history on USB security user access

    Hi,

    To isolate this concern, we suggest that you follow the steps below:

    • Open File History folder.
    • Select all the files that you don't want to be accessed.
    • Right-click on the highlighted files and choose Properties.
    • Go to Security tab.
    • Click on Advanced.
    • Select all the user account that you don't want to have access on your File History folder.
    • Click on Disable inheritance.
    • Lastly, click on OK.

    Runtime Errors

    Ok @FreeBooter. none of your suggestions worked. Still have the runtime error When ever I view the reliability history, under Maintenance.

    Doing your last suggestion did nothing....did them separate and then rebooted.

    "Reinstalling the app package for Cortana and re-registering Cortana may help fix it.
    This tutorial will show you how to reinstalling and re-registering Cortana for only your account (current user) in Windows 10.

    Reinstall and Re-register Cortana using the following procedure:
    1. If the Cortana search not working open the Windows PowerShell by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys, this will open a Task Manager. "
