Windows 10: Why do my EQ settings in the Media Player(Groove Music) not save when I close the window?

This is driving me up the wall. I have a problem where once I select an EQ preset or make a custom one in Media Player (Groove Music) and then click 'Close', it keeps resetting itself eveytime. I hear a clear difference once I close the window again - the sound is much softer, flat and less dynamic which tells me that my EQ settings are not being saved. What is going on here??? Has anybody else come across this problem?

Just a slight correction :
Windows Media Player is listed in All apps > under alphabet W but not under Windows Accessories.

Not on my PC, which is a clean Windows 10 install. It is in the Windows Accessories folder as I indicated. Doing a search for "Windows Media Player" should also allow launching it.

 

What is the difference between Groove Music and Windows media player in Windows 10?

Windows Media Player is your old traditional desktop app for Media Playback.

Groove Music is the Universal Windows app i.e. Store app.
Universal means that Groove Music will be available on every Windows 10 device, be it an Xbox One, a Lumia phone or a PC.

Groove Music is one of the apps optimised for Microsoft's Continuum* initiative and is likely to get updates more frequently than Windows Media Player.

All things aside, Groove Music sounds better than Media Player. I would choose it over the other anyday.

* Continuum is the feature of Windows 10 which allows you to use your Windows 10 phone or tablet as a desktop or the other way round.
