Every time i connect a usb stick into my laptop and i try to open it within folders, the usb stick shows up as removable disk and access is denied. 2. USB Connection showing "Fixed Disk" rather than "Removable Disk"

Hello, maybe someone has solved my problem?? I recently upgraded to Win10 from Win7 and my desktop machine will not classify my Garmin GPS USB connection as a "removable disk". Consequently, most of the Garmin and 3rd party supporting apps don't recognize
the connected device. Windows Explorer does recognize the Garmin device and the Disk Management tool also recognizes the Garmin, but the USB connection is classified as a "Fixed Disk" rather than a "Removable Disk".

I called the Microsoft Support Center and got to Level 2, and after a couple of hours they suggested that I blow out the Win 10 environment and start over, which I did. Same problem! Yeeechhh.

I did all of the usual things like updating drivers, reinstalling app software, changing USB ports, changing USB cables, etc. The good news is that the USB device starting procedures work perfectly on my Surface Pro 3 (also Win10) machine. When I connect
the Garmin GPS, the device is indeed classified as a "Removable Disk". So I have a workaround, but I sure would like to use my primary computer.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

  3. USB Connection showing "Fixed Disk" rather than "Removable Disk"

I re-installed Win10, and connected my GPS via USB, and the Win10 OS still categorizes the device as a "Local Fixed Disk". When connected to my Surface Pro3 running Win10, the GPS is categorized as a "Removable Device".

I then used the suggestions in Method 1 and Method 2, and the device drivers were installed in compatibility mode (Win7). Again, the Win10 environment sees the USB GPS device as a "Local Fixed Disc" rather than a "Removable Disk".

Why is it that my Win10 Surface Pro3 coming from Win8 sees the USB device as a removable disk and my Win10 desktop PC coming from Win7 defines it as a local fixed disk? I don't believe this is a Garmin problem.

  4. Why does every usb i connect into my laptop say removable disk?

I am using hard disk casing of lapcare having usb 3.0 but in my laptop the hd is detected in usb 2.0 but not in usb 3.0

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

It seems like you're encountering issues with your Lapcare hard disk casing when connected to a USB 3.0 port on your laptop. Here are some steps to troubleshoot this problem:

    1. Check USB Port:

    • Ensure that the USB 3.0 port on your laptop is functioning correctly. Test it with other USB 3.0 devices to confirm if it's an issue specific to the port.
    2. Power Supply:

    • Some external hard drives require additional power when connected to USB 3.0 ports. Ensure that your Lapcare casing is receiving enough power. If it has a separate power adapter, connect it.
    3. USB Hub or Extension:

    • If you are using a USB hub or extension cable, it might not be compatible with USB 3.0 speeds. Try connecting the hard disk casing directly to a USB 3.0 port on your laptop.
    4. USB 3.0 Driver Installation:

    • In some cases, external hard drive casings may require specific drivers for USB 3.0 functionality. Check the Lapcare website or documentation to see if there are any driver updates or specific instructions for USB 3.0 usage.
    5. Device Manager Check:

    • Open the Device Manager on your laptop and expand the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" section. Look for any yellow exclamation marks or error messages associated with USB controllers. If you find any issues, try updating or reinstalling the drivers.
    6. BIOS/UEFI Settings:

    • Check your laptop's BIOS/UEFI settings for any USB-related settings. Ensure that USB 3.0 is enabled and configured correctly in the BIOS/UEFI.
    7. Test on Another Computer:

    • To further isolate the issue, connect your Lapcare hard disk casing to another computer with USB 3.0 ports to see if it's detected there. This will help determine if the problem is with the casing or your laptop.
    8. Manufacturer Support: - If the issue persists, consider reaching out to Lapcare's customer support for specific guidance and troubleshooting steps tailored to their product.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance. Thank you.

    Best regards
