Windows 10: Why does my PC sometimes show "Boot Device Not Found"?

Device: HP ENVY X360 - 15-Cp0001naOS: Windows 10 Home x64Hello fellow members! I am new to asking on this forum so please mind that I might not use the right terminology but here but here I go!You see, I've recently been trying to fix my dad's PC with a replacement motherboard after the last one spoilt on his holiday due to many power outages. I have successfully installed the new one and some issues came like volume slider always coming down and BSODs but now everything seems fine other than the fact that the PC sometimes recognises the boot device and sometimes doesn't.The scenario is t

PC keeps booting to IDE instead of RAID

It might not be listed as harddrive. ie it shows devices to boot from, and one of the devices is harddrive, another option defines the order of the harddrives. The RAID controller might be listed as seperate device.
Of course this is different per board.

 

PC shows Automatic Repair screen after booting

Hi,

Thank you for replying.

Refer the steps mentioned below to restart the computer in Safe Mode:

1. On the Choose an option screen, click on Troubleshoot.
2. Click on Advanced options.
3. Click on StartupSettings and click on
   Restart.
4. After the device restarts, you will see list of options. Select option
   5 or press F5 to boot the computer into
   Safe Mode with Networking.
   

After restarting the computer in Safe mode, refer the steps mentioned in my earlier response to perform clean boot and see if the PC boots normally.

If the computer doesn't boot,
I would also suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the section

Boot Device not found

Hi Alan,

Corrupted system files or it boot to a different hard drive that it why you received the message Boot Device no found. To better assist you, we'd like to gather more information:

• Have you made any changes prior to this issue?
• Which build and version of Windows 10 are you using?

Meanwhile, we suggest that you follow these steps on how to perform automatic repair:

• Force turn off your computer/device 3 times until you reach the Automatic Repair environment.
• On the list of options under Advance options, choose Start-up Repair and perform the instructions.
