Windows 10: Why does my refresh rate change when tabbing into a game from 144hz to 120hz?

The desktop refresh rate of the monitor a samsung odyssey g7 is set to 144hz. When I tab into a game it changes from 144hz to 120hz. It seems to only be a fullscreen 1440p issue. 4k fullscreen does not change the refresh rate. neither does 1080p. The active resolution does change when tabbing into a game when it is 1440p 144hz. I have set the active resolution and display resolution of the monitor to 2560x1440 and when I tab into a game the screen goes black and the active resolution changes to 3840x2160 but the desktop resolution stays the same.

I understand that you are using a monitor that supports 144Hz, however you getting black screen after the sign in page.

As per the information provided by you, I have checked that the monitor supports 144Hz. However, the Sapphire RX 570 graphics card that you are using supports only up to 120Hz using the display ports. Please refer the graphic card
specification by clicking on
Sapphire RX 570.



I suggest you to set the refresh rate for the monitor at 120Hz and check the result.



Follow these steps to change the refresh rate of the monitor.

1. Press Windows key + I.
   This will open Settings.
   
2. Click on System.
   
3. Click on Display.
   
4. Click on Advanced display settings.
   
5. Click on Display adapter properties for Samsung monitor.
   
6. Click on Monitor tab.
   
7. Under Monitor Settings, use the drop-down menu to select the refresh rate and change it to 120Hz.
   
8. Click on Apply button.
   
9. Click on OK button.

Forza Horizon 4 Refresh Rate Cant Change from 60Hz to 144Hz

Hi i bought the Games Forza Horizon 4 and wanted to play the game on 144Hz. I noticed at the Benchmark my Refresh Rate was on 60Hz so i wanted to change it but there is no Option for it. I already looked up and noticed that some guys had it working to 144Hz
from their Benchmark. What i´ve done so far: I changed in Nvidia Control Panel to Use Max Refresh Rate. I disabled Windows Gamemode and DVR. I reinstalled the Game.

Hello everyone

I have bought a new laptop and it says the max refresh rate is 120hz. But whatever I do I cannot get past 60hz. I tried It with NVidia control pane and with windows display settings. But on both NVidia control panel and windows display settings (list all
modes and refresh rate) it says I cant get past 60hz and my driver is updated. I even tried to get 120hz with a lower resolution but it doesn't work. If someone knows what the problem is can you help me?
