Why does the Microsoft team not care about Windows 10 users' automatic update and system...

I'm yet another person who has been victimized by Microsoft's "gun to your head"-update-in-secret policy yet another time. I go to bed and everything is fine. I wake up, and "Look, my computer has been restarted and all of my work has been lost!" I have turned off every auto-update option that I can as a normal end user (short of attempting registry hacks), but of course, it shuts down and restarts automatically. This has happened to me dozens of times, but last time it cost me an entire day's work. When will this madness stop?

This sort of auto-update policy is best likened to TSA agents rummaging through your luggage at the airport with latex gloves that have handled everyone else's dirty underwear. The American public has been abused and fallen victim to TSA theft far more times than terrorist acts have been attempted. I am sick and tired of people wasting my time for "my own safety". Where do I sign up to fly on an airplane that allows people on board with two inch jackknives who have not been irradiated by naked body scanners? I'd rather put my faith in random strangers than be victimized systematically by people - such as the Microsoft "security" team - who seem to be incapable of factoring in things like user preferences and product practicality relative to system "security" and threat probability.

I suppose the lawyers have written something in the EULA whereby I - along with millions of other people - probably consented to these automatic updates... But just because Windows forces everyone to clicking "OK" when installing software and updates doesn't really mean that you remotely have my true consent. We are being forced into updates and consent out of duress, an artificial sense of urgency, and coercion. This needs to stop.

This has been a recurring problem for well over a year now and still Microsoft can't seem to learn from user complaints pertaining to this mandated / involuntary / untimely auto-update-and-restart issue. Perhaps the best way to fix this Windows 10 automatic update problem is to try Apple or perhaps Linux.

    :)

Microsoft to push automatic Windows 10 upgrades in 2016

"Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 will be automatically rolled out next year to all users of its older operating systems who have selected to receive updates.

Until now, users of Windows 7 and 8 have needed to register to upgrade to Windows 10. But that's about to change: soon the OS will be listed as an 'Optional Update' and -- from 2016 -- a 'recommended' update that will automatically install itself, if users have opted to receive updates in that way.*Shadedshun :shadedshu:

You can opt out of automatic updates to avoid this, but Microsoftsays that "we strongly discourage this in today’s connected world because of the constant risk of internet threats". You can also change your Windows Update settings to install critical updates but not recommended ones. Although it's still going to be possible to avoid installation, Microsoft seems quite determined for everyone to be using Windows 10 in near future.

The roll-out of reserved updates was initially staggered but, according to Microsoft, now Windows "will automatically kick off the upgrade process once you have made a reservation".

As an intermediate stage, Microsoft says that it will "soon" publish Windows 10 as an optional update, not installed by default, but accessible to all users.

Microsoft to Test Windows 7 Update System

Having propagated Windows 7 RC to a sizable amount of users, Microsoft has created an ideal environment to test the operating system's update system. To test it, Microsoft will release up to ten mock updates this week, starting from Tuesday. The updates do not affect the system in any way, except that they are used by Microsoft to test how the update system itself is able to deal with the various kinds of updates to the OS and its components, in various scenarios generated by people's different hardware configurations and software environments.

These however, won't be the first updates Windows 7 RC received so far. On May 7, Microsoft released a critical-update that fixes an important stability issue with the 32-bit version of Windows 7 RC. Most mock-updates will install automatically. A certain mock-update will also test a notification feature. This particular update will not install automatically, but rather the user will be prompted to install it (which is what is being tested). To decline from testing the updates, users must toggle Automatic Updates to a setting other than what the OS recommends. Under the hood, the mock-updates simply replace system files with their exact duplicates that are downloaded, hence the system isn't affected in any way. Tests such as these will help Microsoft come up with a much more stable OS when it finally releases.
