The file explorer has added a new virtual folder "Desktop" that is different from the "Desktop" folder that mimics the actual desktop. Apparently, this is the root of something called the "Shell Namespace" whatever that is. I've seen some discussion about this that seems to lead to the suggestion that it can be turned off by deselecting the "Show all folders option." That is a possible workaround but doesn't really address the question of what Microsoft is intending here. When the Desktop folder is showing it has no other folders at the same level; if open it shows everything; if closed, not

  2. Win 11 - How do i get all files from desktop to appear in desktop folder of file exlporer?

Brand new win 11 home machine and i just started cleaning it up and installing apps.

When i open the desktop in file explorer only 2 of the 8 items i have on my desktop appear. This is wholly unexpected behavior for any other version or install of windows. Is this a setting issue? how can i fix this?

  3. Home folder in new File Explorer (Windows 11 Pro)

I have a problem with the new File Explorer in Windows 11 (Pro) with all the updates installed as of today.

When I open a new window of the new File Explorer I end up in my "Home" folder. Once there, I cannot create new files or new folders, the circled + icon is greyed out.

I have read some answers where so-called "experts" suggested that a virus was on the machine. This is not the case since I have a very fresh and clean Windows 11 Pro installation. Furthermore, the circled + is disabled in many "tutorial" I see online. For example:

    https://www.xda-developers.com/windows-11-2022-update-file-explorer-guide/

As you can see in the screenshots the circled + icon is disabled (upper left corner, just below the tab icon and title) when the current folder is "Home" and becomes enabled as soon as the user enters another folder, e.g. Desktop.

If I write "C:\Users\<users>" in the "location" text field, I can magically create a new folder. I ended up adding such folder in the quick folder left toolbar, but I, even if I tried hard, I fail to understand why I cannot create a new folder in my home by simply opening a new File Explorer window (WIN+E) then (CTRL+SHIFT+N).

This new "design" slows down the simplest of the operations, that was so easy in all the previous versions of Windows.

Is there any way to just tell Windows 11 to treat this "Home" in File Explorer as a normal folder without messing up with the registry or other black-magic tricks?

creating new folder problem in windows 10 creator

    Hi Gudiya,

The problem you've encountered in creating a folder could be caused by software or program conflict as the issue appeared a few days after installing the Windows 10 Creators update. For us to know if this only occurs when creating a new folder from the desktop,
we suggest that you try creating a new folder using a keyboard shortcut or from File Explorer. Please refer to the steps below:

Creating a new folder using a keyboard shortcut.

    • Click on the desktop.
    • Press CTRL + SHIFT + N.
    • A new folder should be created.

Creating a new folder from File Explorer.

    • Open File Explorer.
    • Hover your mouse on the location where you want to create a new folder.
    • Right-click it, go to New > Folder.

In case the problem persists, then we suggest that you go ahead and perform a clean boot. Doing so will start your computer using minimal drivers to help us determine what conflict is causing the problem. Check out
How to perform a clean boot in Windows for the detailed steps.

Let us know the result so we can further assist you.

    Regards.
