Windows 10: Why does win10 use one half of the available RAM?

I have noticed that on a machine upgraded from 16 to 32 GB it stays around 16GB, no matter what I do (to use more ram), whereas on a machine upgraded from 8 to 16 it stays around 8GB.

I assume it's not by accident, and hope somebody else noticed it as well...and came up with a piece of an explanation..and what to do to let windows be aware of the available ram.

Windows 10 Home 64 - Half of 8GB RAM Available? [Taskmanager]


Hi,

I'm new to this forum and i searched already in a few threads, but i couldn't find the right solution for me. I have 8GB installed as RAM, but in taskmanager my Lenovo Flex2-14 is only finding 4GB.
How can i let my computer find it's full RAM of 8GB, instead of half..
Is there anyone who can help me with this problem? Thanks in advance!

That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.

 

Win10 won't activate after RAM change

Hey! I replaced my old RAM cards with two new ones, and now I'm stuck with a "activate windows" prompt in the bottom right corner of my screen. The troubleshooter does not seem to do anything (tried checking the changed hardware option + chose my device
in the list of devices + it said win10 was now activated.... but the prompt won't leave.)

I got win10 during the free upgrade period, and thus I don't have a product key... Any suggestions?
