Windows 10: Why does Windows Explorer "Search" feature Suck So Badly?

I can NEVER and I MEAN NEVER find anything if I do a search on c:\ for either a folder or a file.

It seems I always have to be in a small directory to be able to find anything.


If I do it from c:\ the green progress bar goes from left to right (in about 2 minutes) and then stays on the right forever with a message below saying "Working on it...". The ... is really a nice touch. Whoever came up with that message was such a good software manager. I Hope they got compensated quite generously for that message because it is the most viewed message on Windows I imagine.


What should happen if it is going to take a long time , and this should be able to be calculated before hand, it should say something like "this search will take approximately 30 minutes, click next to proceed" or something to that effect. Or maybe something really appropriate like, "You can't get there from here, pick a smaller directory to search".


On my macbook pro, I find things on the entire system INSTANTLY.


This also worked much better on older versions of windows.

Thank you for the detailed response. To change the search result's view from content to list, we suggest following the steps below:

• Open the File Explorer and try to search for files.
• In the toolbar, open the View tab and click List
  to change the view.
• Once changed, close the File Explorer.
• Open the File Explorer again and try to search to see if the setting has been retained.

File Explorer Search Not Working


I am trying to search in File Explorer (Windows Explorer, My Computer) and it will not find anything. I can copy text from a name in the list and paste it in the search box and it still finds nothing. I have looked at the suggestions that have been posted and nothing I find that is relative to this works. Anyone have any suggestions? I am running Win 10 Pro on an I3 coustom desktop computer.

are you running IE7? if not that wouold be my first suggestion,upgrade to ie7 that can fix some stability issues with windows explorer
