Windows 10: Why does Windows Update downgrades the display driver for Intel HD 5500?

I have a Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD notebook with an Intel Core i3-5020 CPU and an integrated Intel HD Graphics 5500.

I commonly use the Intel Driver and Support Assistant to update my drivers and it updated the graphics driver a few months ago to version 15.40 (20.19.15.5063). Today Windows Update shows that it want to install the following driver:

Intel Corporation - Display - 3/8/2017 12:00:00 AM - 20.19.15.4624

I´m wondering why Windows wants to install an OLDER driver version. Is something wrong with the version 20.19.15.5063???

I have installed Windows 10 Pro 1903 Build 18362.418.

Windows 10 Keeps Downgrading Intel HD Graphics Driver

Hello,

I have HP laptop with Intel® HD Graphics 530. HP, like any other computer manufacturer, provides driver support for about two years. HP has stopped updating Intel HD graphic driver for my laptop. However, Intel is still providing necessary and in some cases
critical updates for this driver.

The issue I am facing is that whenever I install the latest version of the driver from Intel website, Windows 10 immediately downloads an older version from HP and downgrades the driver with the old version from HP. For example, the latest version from HP
is 20.19.15.4360 (15.40.18.4360). But the latest version from Intel has 15.40.28.4501. I think the problem is with driver version number provided by HP. The latest driver from HP is actually 15.40.18.4360 but HP lists it as 20.19.15.4360 which is wrong
and that's why Windows 10 thinks that 20.19.15.4360 (15.40.18.4360) version from HP is newer than 15.40.28.4501 version from Intel. Thus, Windows 10 downloads and downgrades it.

I have tried "Show or hide updates". But it doesn't show Intel graphic driver so I cannot hide this update from Windows. Could you please do something about it so that Windows 10 recognizes correct latest version of the driver from Intel and not downgrade
it?

Intel HD Graphics 5500 card Not Fully Compatible with Windows 10??

I have an Intel HD 5500 in a Radius P55W laptop and still having issues. Tried installing the Intel 5500 driver but it keeps stopping saying the device reported a problems (code 43) in Windows 10... Generic MS driver works but with very limited functionality
(don't seem able to change resolution, can't connect external display and video playback is VERY slow).

Hoping for resolution soon!

 

Intel HD Graphics Display Driver Windows 10

Hi Harpinder;

First, I want to thank you for replying and offering a possible solution to this problem. It is appreciated.

Second, don't assume that I didn't follow instructions or that I don't use web search (google/bing). I do. I use it heavily.

Third, the solution and instructions given did NOT work for me. No matter what I did - including extracting the Intel drivers and pointing the update drivers action to the extracted folder - I could not get the update to install. It always gave me the
"you have the latest drivers" response. However, you did prompt me to think about another process I might try...

Forth, what did work for me is this...

• Download the Intel HD5000 drivers from this location. It is OK just to download the exe. But do NOT run the installer... just save it: Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 10 [15.40][4th Gen]
  
• Open Device Manager
• Open properties for Display Adapters > Intel HD Graphics 5000
• Click Driver tab and then Uninstall button.
• In the uninstall confirmation box, click the checkbox to "Delete the driver software for this device"
• Click OK to proceed with the delete. The system will need to restart, and when it does it will come up with the Microsoft Basic Display driver listed in the Device Manager > Display Adapters.
• Do NOT run scan for new hardware.
• Run the Intel HD5000 driver installer that was downloaded in step #1.

Those are the steps that worked for me. It would be great to hear feedback on the steps that worked for others.
