Windows 10: Why doesn't Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth work Windows 10

Sorry but I don't know how to make Windows 10 check for updates manually?

 

Just left click the Start Menu, select Settings and Select Update & Security, left click Check for Updates. Try a number of times as should of received this by now unless been less then 31 days since initial Windows 10 Upgrade from older OS.

 

Click start > Settings > Update and Security > check for updates.

 

I'm using a desktop, I don't have "Settings".
My computer crashed yesterday and I have given up on Windows 10, it is highly unstable.
I have reverted back to, and reinstalled, Windows 8.

 

All Windows 10's have settings. My Windows phone and desktops and laptops have a settings. But, if you would prefer to use 8.1, that's fine. It is what makes you more comfortable that counts.

 

My version of Windows 10, a free upgrade from Windows 8.1, did not have a settings function. It had a control panel, and even there was no settings option. There was no obvious way of making it check for updates. You simply had to wait. Give me a screen print of your settings button and I will believe you.

I apologise, I just realised Settings is some kind of horrible App in New Mode Windows. I try to avoid Apps because they're generally useless.

 

Maybe it is a 'horrible' app, but it may have solved your issue. It can also allow you to alter the os settings and run Windows Updates when you want to.

 

The Windows 8 and 10 Settings -> Check for Updates app is as horrible and dysfunctional as I expected it to be. Whilst, admittedly, checking for and installing the updates (sic.) it leaves you waiting for hours watching a screen with little or no useful information. Although there is a progress bar, for a novice there is no hint whatsoever as to whether the computer is working, or has frozen, glitched out or whatever. It is so poorly designed that in my version of Windows you can't even see your wi fi indicator, or battery life indicator, or any other information about your PC, whilst the app is dominating the entire screen. In fact all work on the PC must cease while the horrible app does its work, since it is impossible to predict how the app will behave if you switch back to 'normal mode' Windows. I had hoped that with Windows Ten Microsoft would abandon attempts to take our PCs back to the stoneage by turning them into cumbersome, bloated tablet-simulations but it seems the idiocy continues.

 

Even worse, they will sometime remove the Control Panel when Settings is "ready" (yeah, right) to replace it.

 

I didn't mean to bang on about it but isn't it time Microsoft gave its faithful customers the acknowledgment they deserve of trotting out a decent, stable system without all these unnecessary gimmicks?

 

@Maugli, I too have the DSIM error with Windows 10 Pro Build 10240 but after upgraded to Build 10586 the error is gone. So you should really try to upgrade to Build 10586 first before you try anything else. By the way this Build 10586 upgrade is a huge file (size 3 - 4gb) so if your internet connection is not that fast just be patience. Hope it works for you...

 

Okay great thanks. Am I to understand that once I obtain this build I can do a clean install of Windows 10 at any time without paying?

 

Of course! Once activated on your computer, Windows 10 will be reactivated assuming you install the same version (home or pro) and of course don't do a format once a month!
