Windows 10: Why "green line" slow with File Explorer searching?

Discus and support Why "green line" slow with File Explorer searching? in Windows 10 Performance & Maintenance to solve the problem; @- that's purely to see if indexing is working- not a suggestion for a workaround. @flycaster: Not sure where this is going but making reference to the "tweaks" you may have performed that resulted in you now getting the green bar, I tweaked mine and I get the same green bar but it is an expected result of my tweaking:

I disabled Windows Search in services.msc
I unchecked "Allow contents of this drive to be indexed (under properties of my C drive)"

We should wait for the result of using the troubleshooter, and then rebuilding. If flycaster still has problems, we can go from there.

Why "green line" slow with File Explorer searching?

I tried the rebuild, but nothing seemed to happen. Then did a search in File Explorer, and the green progress line was active. I then tried the the same search word in the "bold" shortcut and got an internet site in Firefox. Got the feeling that I have confused folks with my mis-representation of calling File Explorer iExplorer....sorry.

If you tried to rebuild and nothing happened you may have disabled Windows Search and/or unchecked the Allow Indexing in the targeted drive as I explained earlier (one or two of your forgotten tweaks).

Please run the Windows search troubleshooter. (My first post). Then try rebuilding the index.

WOW! Got things to work right. Running the trouble shooter didn't show anything was wrong. I then ran the rebuilder, but this time I noted that it was doing something...which to a long time to complete as there was a statement that it was slowed down by user activity. Found this interesting as I had closed all programs and wasn't doing anything but letting the rebuilder do its thing??? Anyway, after rebuild completion, I ran a few search tests in File Explorer and I have to say the search results were just about instantaneous. Thanks for all your help and now I just hope that I remember how to do the fix if the problem arises again.

Good- yes, search indexing is very sensitive to activity- little background things may cause it to pause.
