  1. Why is cropping an image in the Photos app so choppy and laggy?

I'm running Windows 10 on a home-built PC using an AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, AMD Radeon 570X graphics card, MSI motherboard, and 4K BenQ monitor using DP input.

I've always noticed that when I click on a picture to view in the Photos app and then click Edit & Create and then use the cropping tool, the cropping is always very choppy and laggy. If I drag the crop selection across the image for example, my cursor will move over before the selection "catches up". Re-sizing the crop selection is extremely choppy and often makes using it difficult.

I know this is not how the app is supposed to behave because at work I use a Dell OptiPlex with Windows 10 and a 1080p Dell monitor and cropping images on that computer is extremely smooth; there is no lag or choppiness whatsoever, the way it is supposed to be.

I can also say that I've used different graphics cards, different monitor (1080p), and even a different motherboard with my home computer (while keeping the same processor and Windows install) and they made no difference. It was choppy in every case.

So what is the problem here?

    :)

Photos app - cropping is choppy

This is a problem that I've had with my Windows 10 machine ever since I built it, even after I've changed motherboards and graphics cards, so I'm really stumped as to what's causing it.

When I click on any photo to edit it in the default Windows 10 photos app, cropping the photo (by clicking Edit & Create --> Edit) and then dragging the selected area, it crops in an extremely "choppy" manner, it never drags smoothly. I can drag the cursor nearly to the other end of the screen and the crop doesn't "catch up" for a few seconds. Why is there so much lag?

I thought maybe this was simply how this app behaved, but I was able to use another computer with Windows 10 and tested it on that one, and the cropping is very smooth and how I imagine it should be. Why is it so choppy on mine? I am using a 4K screen and the other computer I tested it on is a 1080p monitor, so I'm not sure if that could be the culprit.

Photos app - cropping is choppy

I just wanted to say that I've solved the problem. Turns out the problem was my Corsair mouse. I recently bought a Logitech MX Master and the problem is gone--no more choppiness. Plugged the Corsair mouse back in just to be sure and yep, cropping is laggy. I never would've thought the problem was the mouse. I'm so glad this is fixed.
