Windows 10: Why is D drive not recognizing DVD's?

@hollyoaks777 You need to do the step I told you to do in post #6 before the 321 Media Player will show up as an app that you can select for DVDs

 

Now that you have set VLC Media Player as default under "Video Player" in Default Apps, does it now show up as a device in Control Panel > Autoplay?
If so, choose it and restart PC. Then see if a DVD plays in VLC.

If we get VLC to work we should be able to do the same procedure to get 321 Media Player as the default, which I believe was the goal from your first post?

 

No it doesn't

 

I recall having to deal with this. For some reason MS wants to make it as hard as possible to use 3rd party programs as defaults within Windows. Very reminiscent of the Windows 98 days.

Let me go through my notes and see if I can find it.

I think this is what I did:
Go to Autoplay in Control Panel > for DVD Movie choose: Ask Me Every time > close and restart PC > Insert a movie in DVD drive > When the notification window pops up on the desktop click it > "What do you want to do....." :
If your preferred program (123 Media?) does not appear, use the "open file" option to navigate to the exe for the player.
Select the player > there should be a checkbox that says: do this every time" > check it > start video
Then test to see if 1) the dvd starts with the preferred player automatically, and 2) if the preferred player now shows in the list of options in the Control Panel Autoplay section.

Also: If you go to "set defaults by file type" (Start > Settings > Apps > Default Apps > scroll to bottom > choose default apps by file type > scroll down to MPEG-2 ) > and change the default app to your preferred player (you can do MPEG-1 and MPEG-4 too).

The key here is to get the 3rd party apps, VLC or 123, to show up as options in the Autoplay settings. So another option you could attempt is to uninstall the program and reinstall it fresh, perhaps using the 'recommended" install settings when you do.

 

This is the vital step and for 321 Media Player it will only show up in Autoplay if you do the steps I outlined earlier within the 321 Player Options.

 

Managed to get vlc player doing it. It's a player that's supposed to be great and stream. I find trying to stream very difficult. Having to do this on my phone. For some reason my pc only shows my last post about the camera sd card working. So I can't give you's credit. So I'll do it here thanks very much to everyone.

 

Done it Phil shows up in autoplay. But not in default apps. That will do me. Thanks very much everyone.
