Windows 10: Why is only 3.38 GB RAM available from 8 GB installed?

When I first got my laptop it had Windows 10 and 6GB RAM was available out of 8 GB I understand this is because of an integrated graphics card, but now I am on Windows 11 and there is only 3.38 GB available. I've also started getting the BSOD today when running more intensive apps. I've had this laptop for a year and a half and this problem only started occurring today. I've been using Windows 11 for a month and a half. 8 GB RAM installed but only 3.23 GB usable


I have recently upgraded to Windows 10 Home from Windows 7 Home. And I replaced my 4 RAM sticks with 8 GB RAM but my system shows : Installed memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (3.23 GB usable). Please advise if anyone knows how to fix this.

Thanks for reading this post. I have a Dell Inspirion 5770 laptop. Screenshots of some pertinent specs attached. My task command prompt >systeminfo shows that I have 8,055 mb total physical memory installed but only 3,881 mb available physical memory. I have seached the web for solutions and have checked, under Windows search >Run > Msconfig > Boot > Advanced Options, I have left Maximum Memory unchecked. Since I have only 1 - 8gb ram stick, I cannot pull one stick out to see if the other is working. My question is: since I have 8gb ram installed, shouldn't I have, at least close, to 8gb of ram as "available physical memory"?
I use my laptop for computer graphic art and game development. So, my it is important that I make use of as much of my ram as possible.

Hi and thank you for your reply. Yes I have tried that (I forgot to mention that): fitting both Rams into slots 1 and 3 and both back into slots 1 and 2. Then I tried putting both into slot 2 to see if they worked and they both worked. Now when i go into
the BIOS, under memory, it says up at the top 8 GB of memory it is using I am thinking. Down to the right where it actually shows what is plugged into the slots where the ram is, it says: in one slot 8 GB and in the other 8 GB. So, to me it actually is registering
the two ram sticks in the slots but is only using 8 GB of memory and that's why it is showing 8 GB in the BIOS? That's what I am hopefully thinking anyway. I am going to look up on my keyboard on how to take a screen shot of my bios so I can show you and get
back to you. Does this sound right to you? Thanks!
