Why is PC checking media on startup?

My PC has started displaying a strange message before the Windows 4 colour icon, namely
    Checking media
    Media present
Start PXE over IPV4 on Macc:E0-D5-5E-6E-3B-2B

It is not a major problem but it does slow booting time considerably as the message is displayed for 1-2 minutes before it proceeds to the Windows logo.

I assume it is looking for something but I am not sure what.

    Windows version is the latest.

Solved it - Checked the BIOS boot sequence and found that for some reason the "Boot from hard disk" had migrated to the bottom of the list. Moved it to the top and all OK.

    :)

  2. Checking Media Fail on Windows 10 startup

Dell Inspiron 3537 with Windows 10: During startup, 'Checking Media' is displayed at the upper left of the screen, followed by 'Checking Media Fail'. The PC completes startup and everything is OK except that the PC does not recognize or connect to the
ISP. I can repeat startup with the PC connected directly to the modem with an ethernet cable, with the same result. Meanwhile, cell phones, tablets, Macs, and other PCs connect normally through the ISP, so the problem must be with the computer. The computer
ran normally for several years, until the connection problem appeared this week. Wisdom and suggestions would be welcome.

  4. Why is PC checking media on startup?

My pc takes for ever to shut down when i restart

Suggest cleaning up your startup list .There may be many services / Apps you can remove on startup which is not needed on boot or during shutdown.
Before you shutdown the Pc check what is running in Task Manager as a program or service in not killing the process on shutdown

Would suggest cleaning up running apps and services -Autoruns, StartupMonitor,HighjackThis,
    Malware Scan - Malwarebytes,ADWcleaner, Combofix
