    Why is the "change only text size" greyed out?

    It seems if it is set to 150% in the old control panel settings the dropdown doesn't work. Any other settting it does.

    If you then use the new settings app (settings/system/display) and move the slider from "Custom" to any of the pre-defined options then it sets the control panel scaling back to 150% and you can't use the drop down again.

    Very confusing having these duplicate places doing almost but not quite the same thing. I suppose it will pass in time.

    Normally, after you set it to 125% or 150% etc... click Apply then Windows will ask you to sign out. After signing back in, those options will be available.

    FYI, I had this happened with one of my PC. After installation and activated but most of the options are still grayed out and that included some of Windows apps such as Store, Mail .... Ended up re-installing Windows and everything is normal again.

    Never worked for me. I run at 125%. Until they fix this glitch, I have my workaround, which works fine.

    Why is the "change only text size" greyed out?

    @sgage and @2bl

    Ok, here's thing the way I see it. I set the custom scaling setting at 125%, then logged out and in. My text sizing option does indeed work as seen below in the 2nd snip. It doesn't show with the snips, but the second snip is at 125% scaling whereas the first is at 100%.

    Notice in the "Change size of items" paragraph I've highlighted in the 1st snip. In the parenthesis it states "Not recommended" and then states "Setting custom levels can lead to unexpected behavior on some display." This leads me to believe that the text size option may be blocked after scaling level has been increased due to the size of one's monitor or even the type of monitor. Perhaps also that some drivers may not support this feature at 125% scaling. I dual monitor with a 27" and a 19".

    That's the only thing I can think of, unless someone knows otherwise.

    Alas, mine does not work that way. You may be on to something with your speculation about monitor size...

    I noticed your specs aren't filled out. What monitor or monitors are you using?

    Why is the "change only text size" greyed out?

    I'm having the same problem. Text size is greyed out. I use a 52" tv as my monitor. The scaling thing had I know it would lock the option to change individual items I would never have used. However changing it back, logging out and then back in again does not fix it or unlock it. I should not have to keep going into my registry in order to b ale to customize this OS the way I want it to function. The number of appearance customization options they removed since 7 is ridiculous and stupid. They should never have removed those options. Maybe it might make it easier for people who have never used a computer before but in this day and age, who hasn't? As for those of us who have been using them since they were invented, it's a right PITA because we're used to being able to customize everything little thing and know how to, and now we can't. There has GOT to be a fix for this problem. The scaling thing would be fine for me except for one thing, affects the MMO I play as well and messes with my UI so it doesn't work right and it's exceedingly annoying so I need to be able to use the change text size of the individual items because my monitor is so huge it makes it very hard to read anything. I am having to use the tv for my monitor as I don't have a working real monitor atm and can't afford one. So i really need to find a fix for this.

    Can I ask what version of Windows you are running? I had this problem on the initial release (build 10240) but the latest 1511 release seems to have fixed it with no regedits required any more.

    You should see something like this showing the build... The build 10240 had the problem but my current version 10586 as shown below after the latest update works fine.
