Well, as many have already said - it depends. It depends on one's individual preferences. It depends on one's usage profile. It depends on one being a conservative user or an eager early adopter.

For example, I am perfectly happy with my Windows 7 at the moment. It is fast enough, consistently designed visually (which cannot be said of neither 8.x nor 10) and stable, despite plenty of stuff installed and running concurrently. But if I am going to start writing applications for Windows-powered phones, I'll have to upgrade, as WP emulators refuse to work on W7. In such case Windows 10 would be a "should have" OS.

Well, Art, from what I'm reading, you haven't tried Windows 10. You're making some pretty bold statements about what Windows 10 is and is not.

From what I have gleaned from some forums is that windows 10 is targeted towards laptops and other portable devices ... I have a desktop with no touch-screen.

I have a desktop too Art. And I use my desktop just as easily with my mouse and keyboard as I did in Windows 3.1; 95, 98, ME, XP, Vista, 7 and 8.1 and now, Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10130. I find no limitations one way or the other. My equipment consists of one desktop and three laptops, none of which are touch. (I do have a 'droid 11.6" tablet that has touch, which I immediately bought a mouse and keyboard for.) Touch does not interfere with my productivity in any way. Microsoft has done a good job in creating an OS that will accommodate us all, in my not so humble opinion.

I have also seen a lot of howling and confusion from those that have "upgraded". It sounds to me like another OS that's been released (and God knows why) way to soon.

Actually, Windows 10 won't be released until July 29; we'll probably get at least two more builds before that time. I have both Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 on this desktop (and on my laptops) as a dual boot system. I can tell you that for me, Windows 10 is pretty stable, but not quite there yet. You won't hear any howling and confusion from me.

You have to remember that Windows 10 was opened up as a Technical Preview to anyone who wanted to try it. The reasoning behind this is so that Microsoft can gauge how readily the "man on the street" can get here from there or there from here. Of course, there will be novices that are experts in one or another field but who will be totally confused by Windows 10 and the changes it brings. But . . . those millions of us who have run the gamut will be there to help them when the need arises.

This is what MS has become infamous for ... using customers as extended Beta Testers, and this ploy seems to be accepted more every year.

In case you didn't know it, you've stumbled into a nest of beta testers. We enjoy what we do and we totally get it. You may object to Microsoft throwing products out to us for testing, but if it weren't for us and those like us in all other areas, we wouldn't be as far technologically as we are today.

FYI, there are beta testers for pretty much every major product, including but not limited to, Microsoft, Corel, Adobe, Nuance, and the list goes on and on. As I said, if it weren't for beta testers, these products wouldn't be where they are today.

Windows 10 is targeted at all devices ,not just laptops, Notebooks and Tablets and Smart Phones. MS wants one OS that will work on all devices probably even Mac's.

Time will come that it will be only either Windows 10 or Linux. So, if you have a collection of software that only works on Windows, then 10 is a must have (whether you like it or "else" *Shock ).

No that was WIndows Vista. Windows 10 can easily do everything.

Doubt that. Recalling the release of Windows 95, I can see Bill Gates on the stage expounding on how
Windows 95 is the future of Windows. Then 98 then XP then 7.
10 is just the next phase. 8.x will still be good at least to 2023.
Who knows? It depends on the health of the internet and how ISP's do business.

For some of us old people, 7, 8 and 10 will probably be the last windows systems we will ever use.
For young people, the future of computing will change. AI is the future.

    @ FuturDreamz

I tried to search "WIndows" ...
What does the WI represent? I have seen strong supporters of 7 use that term.
    Why capitalize the I ?
    Why WI?
