Why is Windows 10 a must have OS?

They could have called it 8.2, but they're moving away from Windows 8, and focusing on the future. Windows 10 will be a fresh start for Microsoft. This will be an OS for PC's, tablets, phones, etc. The public will either love Windows 10 or hate it. Some people just don't like change, so they will never like Windows 8 or 10. They don't really care about the "must have" stuff. They just want familiarity and dependability in their OS.

When it comes to Windows 7, I'm not sure if obsolete is the right word. You can still use an unsupported OS, as many people are still using XP. The OS is only obsolete, if it stops working completely. Believe me, people will use Windows 7, long after support has stopped. So, I wouldn't worry about Windows 7 being obsolete.

They will drop support on most of these legacy OS's as soon as they can and with that drop comes staff reduction. So not everyone is a winner in this.

how do people use XP with Internet access now? Does Avast+Windows Firewall keep them relativity secure?

I don't believe anything would keep XP secure.

For those that don't like Windows 8.x, let alone 10. It will be. It will be the next stopping point for those that don't want to move on to the Modern UI, for what ever reason.

Some people use personal computers as a hobby and want the latest and greatest OS available. They are in it for the OS itself. Others just want to run their programs on it to achieve an end result and receive updates to ward off viruses and bad code. If your programs will run on Windows 7 then you won't need to replace it until Microsoft drops support. I don't see anything in Windows 10 that would make a business jump at it other than it is free. If it wasn't free many businesses would pass it up. Why pay for training on a new OS when programs that run your business work very well on Windows 7? If you have ever been on a factory floor and witnessed a Windows based computer being used you will understand why change can be expensive and can cause problems for employees. The computer for them is a tool and they do not care what the OS is as long as they can figure out what they're doing.

Windows 7 will still be running on one rig here because of hardware compatibility. It's an excellent OS. At the end I'll be running Server 2k3 R2, W7, W8.1, W10 RTM and W10 Insider...

Then Windows 10 won't be adopted by many of them. There is nothing in it for them. I know of lawyer and Dentist offices that I have visited who use home versions of Windows and Office. They haven't purchased contracts from Microsoft for an X number of licenses. You would be surprised if you check out small businesses in your area and ask them about how they feel about upgrading to every OS Microsoft pumps out. You will hear why should I?

Well yeah, if Windows is just used to launch a scheduling program for appointments (for a clerk), then they have no need to upgrade.

The only big reasons to jump to 10:
    1. Xbox One users that want to stream to their PC
    2. DX12

That's it really. Busineses (cept game development areas) have no reason to upgrade. The only reason people moved from XP is because they had to.
