Windows 10: Why key board layout switched suddenly?

Grrr just had a go with gmail re locked thread....

I wanted to reply to a solution re quotation marks swapped with the "@" ....

I found the thread in this forum but as stated it is locked! So I need to use a new question!

Some of the solutions were quite daunting for the ordinary user among which using the power shell .

But one such solution From Vijay ? a moderato also had a brief note at the end saying that the choice of layout can be obtain by using a couple of key combinations that would bring up a choice of layout . For me, in Australia on W10 Windows tab and space tab did the job! I needed English Australia US keyboard instead of

English united kingdom United Kingdom Keyboard! Problem so easily solved! And quite ironically Australia uses British spelling!

I'm not sure why this was not the first choice reply since one would try the easiest way first? But it was certainly helpful. and my thank you to him.

I seem to remember there were 3 such key combination to achieve this

Finally as he also stated, this would happen accidentally when one press those keys...

As for the compulsory choice of category to post this question I can't see it here but I seem to remember it was something like Advance Input settings

problem with switching keyboard layout with hot keys

You've mentioned that switching the languages when a browser or Word application is open doesn't work. There are shortcuts that may not work if the program or browser has its own functions being used. Regarding this concern, we'd like to know if you were
able to try using the Windows key and the Spacebar in switching the languages instead. If you haven't tried it yet, you may refer to this
link.

Once you're on the page, go to the Switch between keyboard layouts or input methods section. The link will also provide you steps on how to add a new language on your computer.

Note: The steps listed on the link only shows for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 but it also applies to Windows 10.

Monitor Primary monitor layout switches upon second monitor power off

Hi alts63,

One of the possible reasons why your primary monitor layout switches is that the rotation lock option is turned on. In order to turn that off and fix the issue, please follow these steps:

1. Press Windows key + A on your keyboard to open Action Center.
2. Click the Expand button.
3. Click the Rotation lock to turn it off.

Randomly switching to unwanted keyboard layout

When I type in French I use the Canadian Multilingual Standard layout. This is what I have configured in my settings and it is what worked fine for me for years until a week or two ago (which suggests the April update may have had something to do with it).

Now when I switch to French I find that I am often in another layout which I believe to be the Canadian French layout, although I am not completely sure. It is similar to the Canadian multilingual with the most notable difference being that the è and the / are swapped round. I have never chosen the Canadian French keyboard in my preferences and it isn't listed there now. Canadian Multilingual is what is listed.

What's even more annoying is that the layout seems to switch randomly between Canadian Multilingual and Canadian French while I am typing, so I am never really sure what is going to happen when I try to type an è.

How can I get my keyboard to consistently be Canadian Multilingual when I am typing in French?
