    In case anyone's interested... I kept an eye on the temp files in that folder.
    I had some .tmp files which were dated 14th August when I responded initially.

    On checking back today, the 14 August files are now gone, and the latest ones in that folder are now dated 15 August.

    So my experience would suggest the .tmp files get deleted after just over 2 weeks, although I don't use it as my primary Mail app so I'm not in there every day.
