  1. Why sideload apps is turned on by default?

So I after a security breach on my network, I was looking through my pc settings and found that in the "for developer" option in 'Update and security', sideload apps is turned on. I also found the same thing on another pc in same network. Both were running on Windows 10 pro. Another pc did not have this issue and it was running on windows 10 enterprise.

Is this normal for that it was turned on. Sometimes I install packages using cmd e.g. Laravel, node.js. Could it be a consequence of this?

If it were even turned on by a third party, does it allow an attacker to get advantage of my pc through this? Could the install trojan over WAN or LAN?

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild

Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done Why sideload apps is turned on by default? :) I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

    Sideloading on Windows phone 10

    Hi,

Thank you for being part of Microsoft Community.

In Windows 10, sideloading is different than in earlier versions of Windows:

    • You can unlock a device for sideloading using an enterprise policy, or through
      Settings

    • License keys are not required

    • Devices do not have to be joined to a domain

Why sideload apps is turned on by default?

    Installing Sideloaded Apps

    Don,

Thank you for your suggestion - after rebooting the phone, Store recognized the XAP file located on the SD card and gave that as an option for installation.

The other contributors are also correct - sideloading does not give one the opportunity to load Apps which are not applicable for the phone (such as a Nokia App on a Samsung device) or that are not released in your region. It's too bad, there are some great
Apps out there that aren't open to all devices/all regions.

    Thank you all.
