Windows 10: Why the need for "Settings"?

I just don't get it,, not liking a function [settings]because of its look, whats look got to do .got to do with it ,do with it *Nerd isn't it all about function ... yes I like the new settings

 

The new settings are.. ah new. They get the same job done and that's all that really matters.

 

But they don't - lots of things haven't moved over from CP yet, and those that have are often don't have quite the same granularity of control.

 

They will be in time.. these are TP builds and not the final product.

 

I like the new settings ,I like them better than control panel ,I was poking fun at the poster who didn't like All Setting because of its look.

 

I understand.. but I agree.. the new settings are fresh and I like that.

 

I don't care what it looks like as long as it works. At the moment I personally feel like I have less control as I'm not fully conversant with the layout but I'll get there, I've never been one for change for change's sake but if it's the way MS are going I'll have to live with it. Having said that I don't see how a new UI is anything to get excited or upset about, it's functionality that's important.

 

I actually like the Settings app. If they truly move over every single setting to the Settings app, we'll be good.

One thing that I hope that changes is that, when Tablet Mode is disabled, the interface changes a bit to use more of the empty whitespace. For keyboard/mouse users, there is a ton of wasted space.

 

I know we are testing but I am telling you with CP going out it gets really, really hard to find things in settings. Because I am testing I have more icons on the desktop than usual, that's what I do. I just did a clean install and all I wanted to do is put the shortcuts for "This PC" and "Network" on the desktop. We used to just go to personalize and be able to do it from there but no, as far as MS is concerned we now must "integrate world-class mindshare" and just know where to go.

Well, I eventually found it - Settings/Personalization and then, you know "Themes". That is where "Desktop Icon Settings" is now at.

Gee, should of thought of that from the beginning! *Cool

 

MS has done this many times before.. ,moving things around seems to be a hobby with them.*Wink

 

Or, maybe Microsoft is trying to train us to use Search rather than hunting around for stuff.

 

Search works great within the Control Panel - it's how I use it, and have used it for years.

 

I wish my girlfriend had a Control Panel...
