Well it seems we got off topic so lets get back to control panel and settings. It's been said that you can't teach an old dog new tricks. It's true and in this case I would be the old dog and settings would be the new tricks. I like the CP as it does just about everything I want to do. Some of those things I can't do (or don't know how to do) in settings. As an example if I want to get to Folder Options, I open CP and start typing. I only have to type fol and it will give me a link to folder options. How would this old dog do accomplish that in settings?

Open Settings and in the box, upper left, that states "find settings" type what you need. In this case as I started typing folder "File Explorer Options" was at the top of the list to select.

Good song.. great singer. And in the end we'll all get used to the new settings.. and then MS will change it again. *Wink

I wonder if they take a poll to determine what percentage of the user base is really comfortable with a feature, and when it reaches, say 80%, change it all around. *Wink

I have been fixing and setting up computer for average uses for about 15 years now ,and from what I see most don't use features/settings ,some figure out how to add a family picture to the desktop .
I get calls like all I get is a black screen when I turn it on ,when actuall the computer is in sleep mode and they don't even know how to change power settings ,got a call yesterday from a person who is a trained electrician, was asking about the message he was getting about a update to win10 ,I asked what os he was running 7or8 and he didn't know .

same person when I asked if he had ms office installed he said yes but it didn't work ,it was asking for a key ,, he purchased a key and had to download office ,but he knew so little that he threw away the package with the key ,that was 4 years ago ,and no way I could explain it to him ,and the stories go on and on .

moral of my storey most users don't have a clue when it come to settings ,as long as the browser works and opens the home page they are good to go.

best one I ever see was the lady at the computer repair shop ,who when picking up here fixed tower argued that she would have to take the shops monitor home with her because all her stuff was on the monitor

That worked--Thanks. I really hadn't taken a look at "settings" in windows 10, but after looking at it, I think I can get used to it. So, I guess you can teach and old dog new tricks.

When I went up from 7 to 8 to 8.1. MS said they 'may contact me with a view to customer feedback' - never happened?

Almost as bad as those that call their Desktop tower the "Modem". That goes back to the Dial Up connections days.
I try to correct them, but then they sit there with that 'deer in the headlights' look. Eh?

But as for settings..... what's all the fuss, at least for us who know something about Windows and how it's constructed.
The average user, will never have a clue. Eh?

I think of Windows 10 as a fancy GUI, sitting on top of Windows XP. Because, most of what worked in XP still works in W-10.
MSCONFIG still works the same, Services.msc still works, and shortcuts to things like "System" and "Restore" and "Control Panel" still work, if you just put them on the desktop. Don't like things on your desktop?, then put them in the Task Bar, or whatever ya call it.

Just as a 'for instance'...... the shortcut to the Control Panel is still "C:\Windows\System32\control.exe"
And the shortcut to "Restore" is still "C:\Windows\System32\rstrui.exe".

There are several shortcuts that I like to keep handy, on my desktop, when I'm in "TEST" mode.
I also put the script to Force A NEW Restore Point, (thanks again Shawn) in my Startup folder, so I have a new restore point created, every time I boot up my PC, so it's handy when I need one.

Just last Thursday, I got a call from a customer, that her PC (Windows Vista) would not boot up properly, but she kept getting an error message that a repair was needed.

Sure nuff, going into Restore mode at bootup was the ticket. I restored back to the morning of the previous day and all was well with the world, again. But that restore point would hot have been there, had I not installed the Force A NEW Restore Point script into her Startup folder, when I first set up her PC, several years ago.
Most of the success or failure with a PC goes back to the initial setup, and the guy doing it. The devil is in the details!

Cheers Mates! Less than two months to go, before we get the FREE Windows 10.
    *Cool
