    Why the need for "Settings"?

Maybe I'm taking this wrong and if so, I apologize. But this sounds like some sort of a put down for those who ask questions about the settings. Since windows 10 is different in some ways, there are bound to be questions about every part of it. Some have not even looked at the settings yet. Isn't that the reason we have this discussion forum. The 10 forum along with 7 and 8 have helped me quite a bit. A person can have a fair amount of knowledge about computers but still have many questions. Again, if I'm reading this wrong, I do apologize.

Frank, if there is any 'put down' it is for those who get into big arguments about control panel v Settings. It is true that the majority of users don't feel comfortable about changing setups so the ctrl panel/settings discussion is of no consequence to them.

When you want to ask about settings, fire away. There are a lot of people here happy to help.

    Hope I got that right*Smile

    Why the need for "Settings"?

nope ,there is a lot I don't know about computer ,but the basics I learned a long time ago with my first 2 computers , was not meant as a put down to anyone ,I just meant that it matters not if it Settings or Control Panel, the average user doesn't use either, function.
I guess I shouldn't generalise it so much, but the average users I know don't know how to use them ,and for the most part they had a computer just as long as I did.
sorry if I offended anyone *Wink

I agree with the reasoning that as long as everything is still accessible, it doesn't really matter how we access it, we can adapt, and help each other.

That said...I have yet to find the wifi connection status anywhere *chuckle

its in network and Internet ,click on Wi-Fi then on the right advanced options, or other info under related setting, click on change adapter settings it will open wifi in control panel ,then right click on the wifi connection and choose status

    Why the need for "Settings"?

Thanks, I should have been more clear. I found where it should be in the Network and Sharing Center, just clicking the link next to Connections. In my case I was getting the below picture:
    ~
I thought this functionality had been removed in Win 10, until I found out if I open the link a few times, it finally populates with my network info.

Just to clarify, I'm not criticizing the new Settings section - I imagine it's genuinely useful for those using a media consumption device. My issue is, it would be better for MS to have the Control Panel exclusively for computers, and the Settings exclusively for media consumption devices / tablets.

Unfortunately they have muddled the two. E.g. Why can't I access Updates via CP anymore? What harm would it have done MS to leave it there? Whilst Windows 10 is shaping up to be their best OS effort yet, I'm left scratching my head at some of their decisions.

MS is consolidating as much as they can in settings so they don't have two separate areas to do the same thing.. PC(desktop) or tablet. Just try to keep consolidation in mind,

I think I read this earlier in this thread or another one here. Is this correct? ↓

<win>r control will display the classic Control Panel in Win 10.
