Why would I change from Windows 7 to Windows 10

I'm with Wolfgang - there's too much fluff in W10 and nothing I need that isn't in W7. I didn't like the new start menu but now they've 'improved' it to make it worse by adding the alphabet - as if having 'apps' in alphabetical order wasn't enough !
Wait until I add my 60 odd programs to the list - scroll city here I come.

we will switch because everyone else is ,and be singing it praises
? why did we leave xp ,for win7,as it was also a great OS

and lastly we never use all the features of any OS ,but we still move on ,to keep up with the jones's
so we will shut of Cortina and onedrive ,as I have already

  5. Answering for myself, I definitely would NOT update to 10 on existing hardware if I had any intention of getting new hardware prior to 2020 when MS support from 7 officially ends (if I recall correctly). I'd wait till I bought new hardware if for no other reason than I don't want to go through total reinstallation and reconfiguration of dozens of programs and settings for marginal improvements. If you get new hardware, you have to do that anyway, so OK in that case.

If and when I got the new hardware, I almost certainly would go with 10 due to the longer period of support looking into the future--not because of functionality, doodads, boot speed, etc. If, magically, 7 and 10 were supported at the same level until the same future date, I'd probably stay with 7 barring some as yet unknown over-powering reason to go to 10.

Just as the typical $200 plus current Intel CPUs are strong enough for me for any of my anticipated tasks, Win 7 is "good enough" for my usage pattern per se, but ultimately the period of support comes into play and that would at some point be the determining factor.

I'd put 10 on existing hardware only if it provided some functionality I considered highly significant--equivalent to, say, the difference between dial up and high speed Internet, the difference between Windows 3.1 and Windows 7, or the difference between arithmetic by pencil and paper versus a $5 calculator. I haven't heard of anything remotely near that.

  6. This version has targeted how inapt the start menu is with listing apps like Microsoft wants to list them
Now nobody objects to seeing a list alphabetically but listing stuff like they have is just comical,
And it's stuck so what is there to do,
Install start8 and hope Microsoft notices it or possibly classic shell *Wink

Let Microsoft take notes of what these third party product do for users.

I guess I don't see the start as an issue because I rarely/never used it in previous OS and I will continue to rarely use it,i use taskbar and toolbars and icons on my desktop

  8. Why would I change from Windows 7 to Windows 10

I don't have any W8 series to sacrifice.

Given how fast the W10TP previews have degenerated since b9841, I guess I'll be using W7 for a long time indeed.

Don't need to paste anything. Simply change the setting in "View by:" from "Category" to either "Large icons" or "Small icons".

I haven't seen anything in W10 that would make me abandon any of my current W7 or W8 systems in order to upgrade them to W10. I see W10 as different but not necessarily better.

After W10 is released, if I were to build/buy a new system it will most likely have W10 on it but my current machines most likely will not be upgraded since there's no real value add.

  12. By the time these builds get down the road a bit I will be using/ tiring out classic shell and start8 not necessarily at the same time mind you but just to send a message to Microsoft if they insists on going about the start menu and customizations the way they have I'll be looking into every way to kill what I don't like *Wink

I rest my case. You are #3 , the drive it into the ground type. So why are you even asking the question?

I thought it was an interesting question to be discussed - independent of what I personally will do. I run about a dozen systems (Windows, Android and Linux) and I will certainly have one Windows 10. But with the info I have right now that would be out of academic interest - not because I absolutely need it.

The question is really:" Where is the beef ".
