wi-fi range extender, distance and square footage claims ?

I'm in via my old computer out in the shed. I went back to an earlier restore point, I can now see and connect to the wireless extender. I haven't tried using the Netgear today.

So its either a garbage 'security' update from MS or AVG. Just another incentive for me to switch to linux. Which I've used before.

    Hi there

LAN cable is probably the best - but running 200 metres of Lan cable outside - whatever the weather is also not an ideal solution either - as you will certainly get some signal degradation using "Domestic" quality routers.

A commercial grade router will give you a lot better signal -- then if you need an extender a decent one will work.

Most of these sort of problems are usually based on the fact that the original design specs are based on INDIVIDUAL users with a computer situated near the cable box / router. We've moved on a long way from those days - most of us have many devices in a single household and not only that we want separate areas such as sheds / lofts etc where we can use these devices. In these cases it's worth paying a little bit more to get Commercial grade robust kit rather than fairly cheap domestic stuff --which may well be fine for typical individual users.

    Cheers

Well, there is a plastic pipe more than large enough that goes from the house to near my shed. Adding more pipe would be easy. My brother-in-law knows what kind of pipe and sealant that wil lwork best. So weathering shouldn't be a probem. What it looks like we will do is run a CAT 6 cable from the router directly out to my desktop computer. I can work out there on my hobbies, without the relative's kids bothering me. And maybe play a bit of Everquest to.

wi-fi range extender, distance and square footage claims ?

Cable is always the best way to go. And Cat6 will be more than sufficient for that length of run. Just try to stay away from buried power lines. You could get some induction interference, but not likely.

Shouldn't be any power lines right there. I'll be putting a buried power line in later this year to power my tools, etc. but we will take a different path out of the house. Probably be 15 or so feet apart.
