Windows 10: WiFi turned off issue

Hello,
I'm recently experiencing issues with my Dell Inspiron 15 7559. I have an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 adapter and, ever since yesterday, it stopped working completely. When I click on the wifi button in the taskbar it says the WiFi is "Turned off". However, there's no way to turn it on. Even if I click network settings and click the wifi toggle it instantly goes back to off.
I tried to go through the troubleshooter and it suggests that the physical switch is off. However i have no physical switch and the only related key I have on my keyboard is for the airplane mode (and is, currently, off).

I tried to run a Ubuntu Live disk and it gave the same issue: radio hardware off or something similar.

To make it even weirder, yesterday I had left the laptop alone for an hour or so and when I came back it was working again. But this morning it was off again, and it is not working ever since then. Of course I tried restarting and even restoring from a previous backup, but to no avail.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

EDIT: I also tried reinstalling the drivers, both the newest ones from Intel (18.32) and the latest on Dell's website (18.20, IIRC), but nothing changed.

Nokia 920 and 820 will not connect to hidden SSID WiFi

I recently had WiFi issue on my phone (black Nokia 920) in few days ago. I just figured it out today. What I did is that I turned off WiFi and turned off my phone. I waited for few seconds to turned it on and then turned on WiFi and it connected to
WiFi successfully.

I've been having this same issue. I've followed all the steps above and I'm able to get Wifi until I turn the computer off. Every time I turn my computer back on, Airplane Mode is on and Wifi is off. I turn off Airplane Mode and try to turn Wifi on
but it keeps going around in circles.

 

Hi, given what you said about checking this with a boot disk, it sounds more like a hardware problem, assuming you know it worked with the boot disk previously.

(The erratic behaviour you're observing is odd as you know. However I also find MS providing the Wifi tile on the Action Centre (as well as my physical button) confusing).

Presumably you are not also using an ethernet connection.

You can get more information and lots of technical detail if you open
Control Panel, Network and Internet, Network Connections
& rt click on the WiFi connection and click 'Diagnose'.

Apparently the problem was somehow BIOS-related. I was searching around and I've found people having similar problems once they switched the BIOS mode from UEFI to Legacy. This is exactly what I had to do yesterday night to boot Ubuntu from a live USB stick (something I had never done before with this PC). Ever since then, WiFi was dead.

The solution in my case was to downgrade the bios version from 1.1.3 to 1.0.4 and it started working again. However, if I try to update it again to 1.1.3 it doesn't work again anymore. I guess I'll stick with 1.0.4 for a while.
