Windows 10: Wifi turns off on bootup

I am in the process of updating an old laptop: Compaq CQ60-419WM to give to a student for remote learning. After resetting the machine with a clean Windows 10 install Bld 19041, I found that each time I restarted the laptop it booted up with the "WiFi" setting in the setting menu turned to "off". In order to bring the WLAN adapter on, it is necessary to first reset the software setting in Windows 10 to "On", then press the hardware radio on/off button on the face of the laptop to enable WiFi access. Prior to the reset/reinstall, Wifi would be on and the WLAN adapter active when the machine booted up.


I have deselected the power-saving option in Device Manager for the WLAN card, installed a different WLAN card, updated all drivers--without success. This appears to be a software issue: is there a registry setting that may be at fault, an errant subroutine on bootup, etc?


Any suggestions will be appreciated. I am trying to make this laptop user-friendly for a youngster!

Windows 10 wifi not turning on Acer Aspire laptop

In order to get the list of available wireless networks, you have to:

1. Switch on Connect to suggested open hotspots (see the screenshot in question);
   
2. Click on Wifi icon in the right corner. Now you have your networks back.
   

After that the parameter from Step 1 can be turned off, networks will be listed normally after restarting Wifi.

P.S. I feel rather stupid at the moment. I thought that open hotspots are passwordless hotspots and so are presumably not very safe. So of course I've turned that off during installation.
Really hard to see any logic in this case.

 

Turning Off Hotspot?

I'm having issues with my computer not turning off Wifi Hotspot. I've tried going into Network and WiFi settings and everything is switched to "off," but I can still see my laptop on the WiFi lists of my laptop and other devices such as my phone and iPad.

Any other suggestions on how to turn it off and keep it from appearing on any devices?

Turn WiFi search off, when you don’t need it, by taping on WiFi quick action button or by managing your
WiFi notification by following these steps:

• Slide your finger downwards on the screen.
• Press All settings.
• Press Network & wireless.
• Press WiFi. and then select Wi-Fi Sense.
• Turn on/off "Connect to suggested open hotspots".
• Uncheck "Show a notification banner when action is needed from me".
