You should be able to clean install from the ISO without any problems. You will probably need a key from either your Windows 7 or Windows 8 to activate Windows 10. Then again if MS is going to allow upgrades from pirated copies you may not even need to use a key.

The question still remains what will happen when W10 is released.
A clean install of W10 TP ISO is a no brainer as it has its own default license.
When MS releases its FREE upgrade to W10 what will the ISO require for a clean installation? That has not been revealed by MS as of yet. The have been talking about using Windows Update to upgrade to Windows 10 and now have mentioned using an ISO to upgrade but no details on the procedure. But it's early and we have 6 Months before we have to cross that bridge.

Will I be able to do a clean install of Windows 10?

I would think that you would just download the ISO and then install it.. not that complex,

I think they're more concerned about the key that Win 10 will use. Will 10 have it's own key or will they have to use the key from a previous version of Windows. And what happens if they have to move Windows to another computer or HDD?

Good questions.. I would think that when you submit your current key to get the new one for Win10 that the current one is disabled and you lose access to your current OS. But who knows.. I hope that MS just takes your current key and gives you a key to Win10 and lets you to continue to use the current key.

As for transfer.. I would think you should be able to do that if you get the ISO rather than go the upgrade path;.. but time will tell on that.

Only MS knows what their plans are. If I have to use my old keys to activate 10 on my computers I'm going to mix it up. I'll do a couple with my Win 7 keys and a couple with my Win 8 keys. Just in case I need a older OS to run any programs or hardware that won't work in 10.

Will I be able to do a clean install of Windows 10?

At the moment you can only activate a clean install of 10 with a 10 key or 8.1 Pro key. Other versions (like standard 8 and 7) you have to upgrade. Of course that may change.

    Hi there

Ms has let it be known that there will be FREE upgrades from previous OS'es - to W10 even from PIRATED copies of those OS'es !!!! -- bit of a strange thing to reward pirates -- but it should probably end Piracy of W10 after RTM - or at least eliminate most of it.

Seems a shame to reward pirates though --why not give people who've PAID for a previous version of Windows a 15 Dollar amount with a Free copy of Windows.

I suppose for those who want a free copy who don't have a qualifying OS they'll just get a Pirate W7 copy and get a Free W10 system !!!.

    Cheers

You don't get a free license - you only upgrade an unlicensed 7 to an unlicensed 10.

    Hi there

That actually makes NO sense whatsoever -- if the upgrade is Unlicensed then the pirates will obviously continue to go about their business just as before. It will probably take them about 2 microsecs flat to devise some sort of "pseudo KMS" or other system so their systems "appear licensed".

Ms might just have not bothered to say anything if this is really the case.

Ms really should get an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for the most complete obfuscation ever !!!.

    Cheers

I'm not referring to the TP version. They're concerned about what will happen if they take the free upgrade and later something happens to their computer and they want to install the OS on a new drive or computer. To me it's not a issue. I have images in case my drives fail. When I'm ready to buy a new computer it's going to come with the OS included. If I decide to build my own I'll buy a full version of the OS to install if I have too.

Who are? The OP @CallMeSteven asked
there was nothing about installing on other computers. In any case the answer is no - no-one knows.

Your guess is as good as mine but I'll go for "probably".

  14. Seems to me if Win10 came with its own key, that would automatically change "unsupported" (i.e., pirated) Win7 machines into "supported" Win10 machines because, after the upgrade, they would have legitimate keys. The implication of remaining "unsupported" is that Win10 upgrades re-use the existing key.

To me, this means that one of the first things you should do after the upgrade is to a complete image backup of Win10 -- and squirrel this away somewhere. IF your drive crashes, or if you have to do a clean reinstall for any other reason, the image backup can serve that purpose.
