Will I upgrade to W10 Pro or Home?

If you have W7 pro or ultimate or 8.1 Pro, you get W10 pro.

    Thanks,
I am getting so may question, my brain is leaking.

People are looking for new gaming systems, and are asking about it.

About the upgrade what if you have a SSD for booting and the user files on another drive, will it keep the sme config?

Thanks again for all you time..

Upgrade should keep everything as it is now, programs files, disks, all of it, it will just be Windows 10 instead of 7 or 8.1.

  5. Since you're a VIP Member and a Power User, maybe I'll get banned, but I ask because you're WRONG!!! And I'm right!

I made this thread for this question because it was very possible Core/Home installs could be turned into Pro installs. I don't think everyone knows exactly how it works, but it does work.

As I stated many times, my laptop came with W8 Core and has OEM keys in the BIOS. I installed W10 TP Pro -> activated W10 TP Pro -> upgraded to W10 Pro RTM -> activated W10 Pro RTM. I'm able to use Hyper-V which is the main reason I want Pro.

    Build 10240: Did you get assigned a license/product key? : Windows10

Lastly, if you don't "know", perhaps you should say so or not be so rude, especially when you're actually wrong!

How am I wrong? I didn't say anything that could be wrong. I asked you why you ask questions if you refuse to believe the answer.

Clearly you were certain you knew the answer, so why did you ask the question? Particularly when you refused to believe anything other than what you believed to be true?

I'm just trying to understand what your motivation was in asking this question, which you apparently 100% believed you knew the answer to, to the point of refusing to accept any other answer....

FYI, you are not correct. The only reason you can do this is because you are an insider. If you left the insider program, your system would become inactivated because the version you upgraded from was not the edition that's installed.

  7. Well, you are flat out wrong and I didn't know the answer already, which is why I started the thread. I kept on responding because I was waiting for an explanation of someone saying they "knew" it didn't work and why (or they already tried).

I'm not an Insider, I've never been an insider, I've never signed up to be an Insider, and have never had any M$ accounts attached to my W10 (TP) installs.

The big question now is whether or not I can do a clean install and still activate to W10 Pro. I don't think I can, but I don't know yet.

Where exactly did you get Windows 10 TP builds if you aren't an insider? In order to get the OS, you have to sign up for the insider program.

  9. Um, no, you're completely wrong. The W10 TP ISOs were freely available on M$ website for anyone to download, anyone to install, and anyone to activate.

If wanting to bypass the test version of Win10 and IF you are running Win7 w/SP1 or Win8.1, you can get the released version of Win10 by completing all the Updates available. I am now updating a Win8.1 Tablet that hadn't been run in a couple of weeks and the GWX/Get Windows 10 icon appeared in the Notification Area, let me Reserve Win10 for it. I'll probably go ahead with the Upgrade in an hour or so. The GWX icon appears as the same printed on Windows key on the keyboard, 4 white squares or window panes.
