    No you weren't. It has been clear all along that you had to have a valid 7 or 8.1 license for the free upgrade. If you downloaded an ISO and did a clean install, that does not qualify. You can either update from 7 or 8.1, buy a copy, or stay in the Insiders Program.

    The question is...why would you want to activate a preview version? Even if the build numbers match, why wouldn't you want to have the finished code delivered the way it is meant to be delivered? There could still be things that were finished, implemented, etc.

    I had no problems upgrading my build 10240 copy. Rather than upgrade via Windows update, I downloaded the ISO using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool, and then upgraded from that. Upgrade was flawless, everything is activated.
