  1. Will old Office 2007 updates be available after support ends 10/10/17?

Microsoft support for Office 2007 ends on 10/10/17. They say that new updates, bug fixes, and security patches will end on that date.

Will old or existing updates (published before October, 2017) still be available through Windows Update after support ends?

I need to do a clean reinstall of Windows 10 and all of my existing programs (Office 2007, etc.), but I may not have time to do that until late October -- which will be after support ends for Office 2007.

If I run Windows Update after my reinstall in late October, will it still generate old updates and patches for Office 2007? Or, will I have to search and download them manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog?

    Thanks.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Version 1709

Please keep in mind, Microsoft stopped supporting Office 2007 since October of 2017. Microsoft would not be delivering any patches or updates for Office 2007 on Windows 10 1703. The recommendation really should have been to upgrade to a later release.
But most users don't like hearing you will have to upgrade your Office suite. So, I made a recommendation regarding, if you must keep using the old version, try using it on a semi supported version of Windows 10.

Thanks for getting back to us. If you're using Microsoft Office Outlook 2007, note that Office 2007 has reached the end of its support life cycle, meaning there are no new security updates, non-security updates, free or paid assisted support options, or
online technical content updates. It is best that you move to Office 365 or upgrade to supported versions of Office products and services, such as Office 2016.

To know more details about it, you can visit this article: Office 2007 End of Life roadmap.

If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to share them with us here. Your input is very much welcome in our Community.

Yes, they should be, old updates are still available for some time after the end of extended support. Obviously this is the future and MS may have other ideas.

I just installed MS Office 2003 for a friend and there were a ton of updates for it. I went through Windows Update.

I was worried about this too, so I downloaded all the catalog patches for office 2007.
Last time I did this some years ago, I got a heap of .EXE files with an installer inside each KB FullFile package.
This time it was quite different - I got one folder per KB patch, each containing a single .CAB file
e.g.folder Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2596650)

    contained this CAB file all-ieawsdc-x-none_724e0bda5052a709502837a58fb61bcfadecd2b2.cab
Does anyone know how to install these, say after a clean install assuming Microsoft has pulled the plug on Office 2007?
...or have I wasted both time and bandwidth (quite probably the latter)

Will old Office 2007 updates be available after support ends 10/10/17?

    Spilly,

I assume you did as I did - ran this search to get a complete list of all Office 2007 updates in the Microsoft update catalog - http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/...?q=office+2007

You can just extract the contents of each cab file - within each folder, the cab file appears as a sub-folder so just look at that and drag its contents into the parent folder e.g.Look in the cab file [subfolder] all-ieawsdc-x-none_724e0bda5052a709502837a58fb61bcfadecd2b2.cab and drag its contents into folder Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2596650) and then delete the cab file if you want to save storage space. The extracted files will generally be in pairs - an .msp file [Windows installer patch] which you double-click on to run the update & an xml file which you do not need to do anything with.

In some cases, the cab file contains other cab files but you should only need the [sub-]cab file for your language version.
    • The only awkward one I ever found was KB4011086 Security Update for Microsoft Office Outlook which required installation of both the individual file for my language version and the one labelled outlook-x-none.cab

I have done this will all my Office updates and have also shifted their names about, e.g. "KB2596650 Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites", so that if I ever have to reinstall Office 2007 I can just sort them into numerical order in File explorer, install SP3 [which included all older Office 2007 updates] and then just plough through the rest in sequence.

  9. Hi,
Windows will install all updates to this date no matter when one installs an older office version.

No more updates past the support date will be offered
MS usually double takes on this policy if really bad vulnerabilities popup though.

One can midigate vonerablities by not using outlook... via email messages and attachments received from unknown senders.

Thanks guys for a whole bunch of helpful replies - #6 - #9

I'd just stumbled upon Try3's posting in another thread very soon after posting my question
after several fruitless searches BEFORE I posted *Mad
Then I rushed around and couldn't find how to edit a post once you've committed it and left the thread for a while

Any links for the HowTo for that anywhere?

    Spilly,

In the grey bar underneath your post you will find the

    control.
    • It can sometimes be better to just add a new post correcting the original statements in case you get any replies to the pre-editing version that you only notice afterwards & can therefore misinterpret.

I have just found another awkward one. In the Microsoft update catalog, KB4011276 'Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites' appears twice. If you click on any update title you will see a dialog box with further details that can often help to distinguish between different updates. In this particular case, the detail to note is the internet address of the dialog box because it contains the update ID.
    • For languages zh & cn [Czech & Chinese?] the relevant one is UpdateID 0ced4961-cba1-4709-9272-3836f431902b and is 232KB
    • For English language versions [and, I assume, all others except zh & cn], the relevant one is UpdateID c9ee365f-223a-4d87-8255-44df5738b88b and is 233KB
    • If you try to download both at the same time, one will overwrite the other so you can either choose the right one or download one, rename its folder then go back to the catalog & download the other.

  14. Let's hope Office 2007 still has useful life left in it.

It seems they're pushing this new "Office 365", for which you pay forever and ever and ever and ever.
No thanks! I'll keep my Office 2007.

You could instead buy Office 2016 ... but that's in the $350 - $400 range.
    Once again ... no thanks!

    @TobyMeister

Have you done your reinstall yet? If not, I have some reassuring news for you.

I have today (30th November) had cause to do a factory reset on a Windows 7 PC that came with Office 2007 preinstalled by the OEM as a 60-day trial. The factory image predated Win7 SP1, so it gives you an idea how old it was.

Despite not activating Office 2007, or even starting the trial, the fact that it was installed was sufficient for windows update to install every Office 2007 update that was missing. Several iterations were required to get them all, it seems some early updates may be prerequisites for the later ones.

The last iteration of checking for updates installed 38 Office 2007 updates which, as far as I can see, brings it fully up to date.
