Windows 10: Will programs uninstall properly with Win10?

Checked out my little htpc / server... the idea of apt-get purge or --purge is false advertising. I am quite annoyed right now after looking at all the junk that is still in there. My Arch vm is the same way, tons of garbage. More false advertising.

 

Does it mean I should stop fighting with the leftovers, such as, for instance, the shared file folder of Cyberlink DVD 10? Even if I suspected that might have collided with Windows DVD Player? A funny thing is that iObit Uninstaller apparently removed that folder, i.e. it is no longer present on its list of programs, but on the Windows list it is still present, and when I try to delete it, I get a message that I should take ownership of the folder. In connection with this, I came across the following instructions Windows 8: Take Ownership Of Files Change Folder Permissions and am wondering, first, would it work for Windows 10, and, second, would it be safe to try?

 

Is it causing issues?? If not don't do anything.. and if you do make sure you make a backup image first.

What i have tried also even after using Revo Pro, plus i would type name of software in Find, does find more leftovers, but of course make a restore point or registry backup first, be careful what you remove as said most of leftovers won't harm the system anyway.

 

Rule of thumb..
If it ain't broke .. don't fix it. *Wink

 

Thanks Jeff. After I managed to restore the settings of Windows DVD Player, it doesn't seem to cause problems. At least for now ..

 

Great.. if it does start messing up then look into fixing it.

 

I use Revo Uninstaller, it gets most of it out if you use "advanced" uninstall
