    Ok, I was able to raise a menu by hitting esc then F12. Nothing much helpful in the menu re booting from the usb drive.
    NavyLCDR. I believe "bootable Macrium Reflect rescue drive" is what I did make. I'll go back to Macrium and double check.
    Also, I will remake the drive after formatting for NTFS.

    Maybe it would be simpler just to make a repair DVD and use the backup as a resource to reinstall programs.

    Just for giggles I tried to boot a repair dvd from a previous computer. I know it's ok. This system failed to see it. When I got the boot menu with esc it would only allow me to boot with UEFI. I think I need a different computer. Isn't the system supposed to sense the presence of a dvd and suggest booting to it?

    The DVD probably was not compatible with UEFI booting. You would have to enable CSM in the UEFI firmware and to do that you must also disable secure booting first.

    Oh. Well, I don't actually need the dvd. I'll make a fresh one for this setup.
