    Win 10 1703 -> 1803 worked. 1803 -> 1903 failed the same day

    - Four month-old LG Gram 15"
    - 16 GB of RAM
    - 142 GB of free disk
    - Came with Windows 10 1703
    - No added games, no junk, no third-party anti-malware or AV ever installed

    - Upgraded successfully to 1803 a few weeks ago after upgrading an Intel video driver that was causing a block.

    - Intel Driver & Software Assistant was used to upgrade all drivers.
    - LG Update Center says all is up to date including BIOS

    - Upgrade to 1903 almost immediately prompted after the 1803 upgrade. It fails at 28% of "Applying Updates" and rolls back.

    - 0x8007042B-0x2000D
    - The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation

    - SetupDiag:

    - Tried Windows Update, Media Creator, .iso file mounted from desktop, Windows 10 Update Assistant - all fail the same way

    - A Clean Boot does not help

    - sfc /scannow did not find any integrity problems

    - dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth - No component store corruption found

    - Nothing jumps out at me in the event logs except for one DCOM error:

    The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160} and APPID {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276} to the user NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE SID (S-1-5-19) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool..

    - I have 30+ years of technical IT experience so I usually can figure most things out. For instance, I could not get an old Windows 7 PC upgraded to Windows 10 due to an unhandled thread exception. I was able to figure out that the cause was an ancient non-PNP driver for software I had never installed so it probably was bloatware. Yes, it took me a dozen or more upgrade attempts to figure it out, though. Win 10 1703 -> 1803 worked. 1803 -> 1903 failed the same day :)

    Any guesses would be gratefully accepted. If I could figure out what that DLL and migrate operation does it probably would help isolate the problem. All I can find are a handful of other people with the same problem, though.

    Plug-in Name = %windir%\system32\migration\SxsMigPlugin.dll
    Migration Operation = IPostApply->PostApply
    Plug-in Error: 0x00000002

    :)

  2. Win 10 1803 to 1903 update

    My Desktop computer running Win 10 updated from version 1803 to 1903 a while back, but my Desktop running Win 10 version 1803

    I'm assuming the update 1803 to 1903 has now resumed after the earlier problems caused a suspension?

    Any thoughts, suggestions?

    Windows 10 1803 update issues(Solved!)

    How was this solved? Maybe it could help someone else, since there are numerous various problems with 1803 (and yes, I know many others have had no problems, as well).
