Windows 10: Win 10 1809 kb4497934 update fails with 0x80070157

Hello,

The other May 2019 updates installed properly. I don't know if this

has anything to do with my Windows-to-go USB boot device (as

discussed on ZDNet in April). Has anyone else seen this error?

Update KB3194798 keeps failing with 0x80070157 code

I have a problem that the cumulative security updates keep failing. I already spent two days reading about the problem and tried everything, for example DISM health checks, emptying the software distribution folder, clean boot, installing using the msc file,
but nothing works. The laptop keeps installing and after a reboot I get the message that something went wrong and the update is not installed.

Event viewer:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070157: Security Update for Windows (KB3192441).

The next step was installing the anniversary update (1607), which works. Again, I get another cumulative security update which keeps failing again. Again with the same error code in the event viewer.

The eventviewer message reads:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070157: Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3194798).

Since I have an asus eeebook which is not really fast and a slow internet connection this is becoming seriously annoying!

How do i fix this microsoft? Similar topics all seem to be dead without a solution

 

Windows 10 Update KB3176934 fails with Error 0x80070157

The Update fails with the Error 0x80070157 (ERROR_EXTERNAL_BACKING_PROVIDER_UNKNOWN) (The external backing provider is not recognized). Also some other Programs (Intel Storage Manager for example) fail with this Error when i try to Update them.

How can i resolve this Error?

Windows 10 fails to update


When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.
