Windows 10: Win 10 clover Trail.. WTH is Microsoft playing at?

OK, seen a few posts complaining/asking about need to revert back to 1607 for support to 2023 for the now unsupported Clover Trail atom processors.

Not seen sensible reply for people like me where my machine got to 1703.. and is now blocked from further updates. so

1. Will my device get promised security updates to 2023? or do I need revert to 1607 to get that?
2. My real question.. WHY .. for the love of god does MS INSISIT on trying to upgrade my device with new feature updates? Surely their device detection can see I am clover trial.. and not offer the update? WHY does every update (1709, 1803, 1809, 1903, go through a repeated loop... "your device need update"... "We tried to update your device" .. "your device update failed and needs roll back"... ad-infinitum, every day, until I manually block that update,..... then it repeats with next update? This process going on since Sep 2017 !!? I cut them some slack for 6 months.. but then called MS support - they told me how to block .. but I (foolishly) assumed they would feed back for a root cause fix for next time (how foolish was I to assume MS were efficient!!!)

Any ideas?

Devices with these Intel “Clover Trail” processors are impacted:

• Atom Z2760

• Atom Z2520

• Atom Z2560

• Atom Z2580

 

Windows 10 and Clover Trail

Didn't they say clover trail will not support Windows 10 and that they have no plans to add such support in the near future?

Anyways? That doesn't stop you from installing windows 10 @ your own risk.

 

Win 10 Extended Lifetime on Clover Trail Atoms also for 1709?

I am running Windows 10 1709 on a Clover Trail Atom Processor (Z2760). Now, Windows Update is trying in vain to install 1803, failing with the notion that my CPU is no longer supported.

According to multiple
Tech News pages and
this post by Edison Puson the support forum, this is a known issue and 1607 remains the latest stable version recommended to be run on Clover Trail CPUs. Of interest, that post suggests an extended support until 2023 for those older CPUs running 1607 (Anniverary
Update):

"As part of our commitment to customers, we continue to offer the Windows 10 Anniversary Update to these Intel Clover Trail devices on Windows 10, which we know provides a good user experience. To keep our customers secure,
we will provide security updates to these specific devices running the Windows 10 Anniversary Update
until January of 2023, which aligns with the original Windows 8.1 extended support period."

According to the
Windows Lifecycle Fact Sheet, my 1709 is scheduled to end April 9, 2019. Do I have to roll back to 1607 in order to be eligible for those extended updates until 2023, mentioned above? I'm not quite sure why I was able to do a fresh install of 1709 in the
first place, but here I am.
