Windows 10: win 10 codec for .cr2 data

Is there a actual codec pack for camera raw data from canon cameras.

If yes, where can I download it?

If not, what is the reason?

Codec for Reading CR2 Files from Canon 6D Mkii

I enquired at the beginning of the month when Windows would be updated with the latest codec for viewing Canon 6D Mkii CR2 (RAW) files. I was told it would be the 17th of this month.

Can someone please advise when the codec is likely to be released?

Are you using Windows apps like Photo viewer or other apps to view the .CR2 Raw files?

This issue might occur if the Codec is not compatible with the Windows 10.

I suggest you to install the Codec software in Compatibility mode
and check if it resolves the issue.

A compatibility mode is a software mechanism in which a software either emulates an older version of software in order to allow incompatible software or files to remain compatible with the computer's newer hardware or software. Follow below steps:

1. Download the Codec from the
manufacturer’s website and save it on your local disk.

2. Right click on the setup file of the software and select "Properties".

3. Select "Compatibility" Tab.

4. Place a check mark next to "Run this program in Compatibility mode" and select operating system from the drop

down list.

5. Let the Codec install and then check the functionality.

Microsoft Camera Codec for Windows 10

Recently purchased a Canon M5 mirrorless system, and discovered the CR2 files require a newer codec for Windows to recognize them. I just downloaded the FastPictureViewer Codec Pack trial. It works really well, and I'm going to plop down the $9.99. No,
I'm not being paid by the developer. Like you, I just wanted a solution to view the CR2 thumbnails in Windows and preview files with Photo. This wasn't a problem for CR2 files from my older Canon 5D and Rebel XTi because the default codec pack included with
my Windows 10 HP desktop included these legacy translators. Doesn't look like Microsoft is updating their codec pack, and I couldn't find anything through Canon. Just download, run the installer, restart Windows and the CR2 files are visible in folders when
viewing files as thumbnails.
