Windows 10: WIN 10 Ethernet Connection

My internet connection via wired Ethernet, shows 'no internet access" but the correct Modem address.

In fact internet access is ok. e.g this question is being posted!


The issue is that where I expect the Ethernet icon in the right side of the Start/Task Bar I see a Proxy Icon. So something is triggering this!


Result is Outlook fails to connect and asks to try again.


Despite many Shut Downs/Restarts of both my PC and the modem connections, issue remains.

I have at least 6 devices connected to my home network, including another WIN 10 hard-wired ethernet PC, 2 Samsung Android phones, Apple Ipads and smart TVs. All work great except for this Dell Inspiron PC!

I have Norton360 installed on 5 devices and have contacted Norton for advice but other than uninstalling and restarting the PC without it, all to no avail. Norton reinstalled and issue persists.


Very frustrating!!


I have tried all of the MS Virtual Agent suggestions to no avail.


Any ideas/solutions would be appreciated.

Setting a metered connection for Ethernet?

Please permit me to respectfully disagree, battlezone. Not only is it possible to do this, TenForums offers a tutorial that explains exactly how, step-by-step: Set Ethernet Connection as Metered or Unmetered in Windows 10. Do please check it out, won't you?

My reliable ethernet connection no longer works

Hi Marcia,

To better understand the query, please answer the following questions:

• After restarting is your computer in normal mode or not?
• Are you getting any error message?

I suggest you to reset the modem\ router and check if the Ethernet connection works or not.

If still the issue persist then I suggest you to follow the steps from the below article

How to delete an ethernet connection?

Just as title says. I have some old ethernet connections in my list, and I would like to delete it to clean.

Any suggestion?
