Windows 10: Win 10 keeps freezing

I ran SuperAntiSpyware which found 17 threats and quarantined them. Restarted. Next ran: sfc /scannow. Results: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details included in CBS.Log."

I've tried to paste all the "details" from the report, but they won't paste; keeps crashing browser. But if important, I can paste to a word.doc and post as attachment. However here are the last few lines:

Next I will run dism/online/ cleanup-image /restorehealth, but I want to post this info first before it got lost.

 

Ran dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth. Results: Error: "0x800f081f. The source files could not be found. This is getting a little too technical for me. I have no idea what this means or what to do. Again, your help much appreciated. Thank you

Note: just restarted computer. Copying problem still exists. Cannot copy at all now from C drive to ext hd. Does not go past 0%. Seems to be getting worse.

 

If DISM ...restorehealth isn't working, you could try inplace upgrade, by downloading ISO from MS (same release, same language) and start upgrade within Windows.

Most of the time, it'll repair errors and leave all your apps and files in place. Below are Brink's tutorials:

before that you could run ADWCleaner to ensure malware has gone.

 

A few more notes: This machine originally ran Win 7. I upgraded to Win 10 with a free version that Microsoft still offered. This was several months ago. I'm wondering if the best thing to do would be to purchase a new version, and re-install Win 10. Does this sound like a reasonable thing to do? No need to do that. Free version you got is the same and you can clean install with ISO of Windows 10 you get from Microsoft.

 

1) As suggested, I ran ADWCleaner which found & removed three more items.
2) Performed Windows inplace upgrade -- results: NO CHANGE in issue
3) All this time, I've been trying to copy (backup) files from C Drive to Ext. HD 1 -- get to around 17% then crash. Machine then unusable.
4) Restarted, tried copying from Ext. HD 1 -- to Ext. HD 2 -- Copying went great! Fast, no issues.
5) Then tried copying from Ext. HD 2 to Ext. HD 3 -- Copying went quickly until about 80%, then machine slows to halt. Machine then unusable again.
6) Have run disc check on all drives. All report healthy.
7) I'm attaching a screenshot of latest "Problem Reports." Maybe this provides some clues?

I also ran an Administrative Events report which found 493 events, all either "error" or "Warning." (image below). Not sure if this provides clues or not.

something is seriously wrong. Could be malware have damage your system, or even hardware error...

Do you have any logs from Malwarebytes or Adwcleaner? Check in their folders (and in program - search for logs) and paste or attach them here...

Do you have backups (your files: documents, videos etc.)? If you do, I would suggest clean install. Download ISO from MS, delete at least system partition and perform fresh install.

Reliability history is interesting. Just for the last three days? Did you check for any details about that errors (double click on them)?

try to clean install (again backup, copy your files), so we can eliminate system as the source of your problems. If problems persist, it's probably motherboard.

Edit: one more thing. In your previous post I've noticed one driver failure.. can you post detailes about that one?

It's in your post, where was picture about problem reports. Open problem reports (under maintenance) and see, if you can get detailes about that failed driver install (which driver, and if it's installed later..)

 

1) Failed driver info no longer available on my machine. May have properly updated at this point. 2) After further research/testing, it appears the problem of copying slowing to a complete stall was being caused by corrupt files. I had large (several GB) .MTS video files on my C drive that had problems copying to other drives. I believe these files have been corrupted somehow. It turns out other large files, including video files, copy without issue. I will be on the lookout for further issues, but for now, I'm going to assume the issue was being caused by corrupt .MTS files. Thanks for all the help.

 

And don't forget all that unwanted files, registry entries, etc (not sure if I can call them malware) it was on your system. I would suggest performing Mawarebytes scans every few day for a week or two, and in case anything came up, report it here and we could help you to clean it up. Nobody really focused on that issue...
