  1. (Win 10) My start menu button and volume control button isn't working

Whenever I press the start menu button at the bottom left corner, the menu does not pop up so I can not use any of my apps. Same with the volume button. Whenever I press it, the horizontal rectangle volume control does not appear so I have to right click to change my volume. What can I do to fix it?

    :)

I downloaded Windows 10 and it worked well for the first day. When I started my computer the following day the Windows Start Button, Internet Access Button, Volume Control Button and New Notifications Button will not work when clicked on. The Windows Start
Button does not work from my keyboard.

I can find no place on the Microsoft website where I can re-download Windows 10.

Volume Control Missing in Windows 10 upgrade

I've encountered this problem too and none of the other suggestions have worked. However, I stumbled across a solution that worked (for me, anyhow) whilst trying to fix another problem.

Occasionally my Start button becomes unresponsive, meaning that I am unable to access the start menu. When this occurs the Windows button on my keyboard cannot open the Start menu either. I used the following solution to fix the Start button issue and, lo-and-behold,
my volume slider magically reappeared! Essentially, the fix below restarts all the Windows apps, so I'm guessing the volume slider issue is connected to a buggy windows app.

Anyway, here is a link to the fix (use the 3rd method, entitled "How to fix the Start menu and Cortana in Windows 10: Use the Command Line"):

What to do when the Start Menu stops working in Windows 10

(Win 10) My start menu button and volume control button isn't working

There are many many posts here about start menu, taskbar ion problems.. feel free to search (search box above).
    Extraordinarily long thread here:
Taskbar/Start button not working! - Windows 10 Forums

If your start menu fails to appear, try this:
    http://www.urtech.ca/2015/05/solved-...-not-function/
But do not try option 4 - powershell command- as this has been broken and will break apps since last November.

You can check for conflicting programs by trying a clean boot.

If no joy, I suggest you just go straight for an In-place upgrade repair install.

An In-place upgrade repair install will fix many things, but not those where the settings are not changed by the procedure.

For this you need an installation medium with the same base build as you have installed.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums
This will refresh Windows, after the manner of a Windows installation.
    - all/most associations will be unchanged
    - all your programs will be left installed
    - you will lose any custom fonts
    - you will lose any customised system icons
    - you may need to re-establish your Wi-Fi connection
    - you will need to redo Windows updates subsequent to the build you have used for the repair install
    - Windows.old will be created
    - system restore will be turned off- you should turn it on again and I recommend you manually schedule a daily restore point.
    - you will need to redo any language downloads including the display language if you changed that)

This is one of the better features of Win10: as each major build comes out, that's your updated reference build, and as updates are mostly cumulative, there will be few to do.

    Recommendation:
Before you perform this major repair procedure, do create a disk image.

Please consider using disk imaging regularly. It's a brilliant way to
    - preserve your system (and your sanity)
    - back up your data
    - restore your system to a previously working state in a relatively short time

Recommended: Macrium Reflect or Aomei Backupper (free) + their boot disk/device + large enough external storage medium.

  5. Courage, scpillow. Simply use the Windows logo key instead of the Start Button.

I solved the problem with PowerShell, which is easy to use. Enter Task Manager and click "File" in the top left corner. Select "Run New Task." In the box that appears, type the word powershell and check the box giving you Admin privileges. You have to wait several seconds for PowerShell to boot up. When it does type sfc /scannow into the command line. (notice the space after sfc). It will take about an hour and a half to correct any corrupt files.

If that doesn't work, here are some other suggestions:

Folks, so many people are having trouble with the Start Button not working in Windows 10, that I have assembled all the various cures. None of them will work every time, but there’s a good chance that one of them will.

    1) Go to this web page Has your Windows 10 Start menu stopped working? Here are four ways to fix it - BT to learn how to use PowerShell (a built-in Windows utility that you already have) to fix it. His first two ideas are pretty good. Don’t do his more drastic solutions, though, until you try these other ones.
    2) Uninstall your anti-virus program and re-install it.
    3) Simply use the Windows key (between the Ctrl and Alt keys) instead
    4) Type “Classic Shell” into a search engine and install it. It is a free Start Button that works great.
    5) Use System Restore

On its official site, Microsoft recommends:

    Method 1:
1 Open run command. (Windows logo + r)
    2. type regedit and press enter.
    3. click ok when notification window prompt.
    4. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Explorer>Advance
    5. Create a Dword with name ‘EnableXamlStartMenu’.
    6. Give it value 0
    7. Log off and login again.
If it still doesn't work try these methods.

    Method 2:
I would suggest you to try ‘sfc scan’ if you haven’t tried it yet.
Let’s use the System File Checker (SFC) tool to see if it can find any missing or corrupted system files. If so, it will attempt to repair and/or replace them. Follow these steps:
    1. Press Windows +x
    2. Select command prompt admin.
    3. At the command prompt type “sfc /scannow” (no quotes), and then press ENTER
    Method 3:
    1. Press Windows + x
    2. Select command prompt admin.
    3. Type dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    4. Reboot PC.
