Because the store is not MS exclusive, anyone can right an APP, and along as MS agrees to its authentication then its open to anyone.

  2. You can still to choose to which IPs each app can connect. Allowing MS login IPs will not do much.

  3. I use the Program DoNotSpy10 or another Program called Destroy Windows spying. Both stop the most communication to Microsoft.

Creating outbound firewall rules based on destination IP addresses is pretty laborious and not really feasible. In part because Microsoft often use a CDN like Akamai, which means the URL's resolve to ever-changing IP addresses.

  6. You can can just allow the whole domain, they are used for updates/downloads only, 3rd party provider.
Most users do not care about privacy, otherwise they would not buy smartphones or use google.
And it is not really that hard to setup, it just sounds complicated. I used a configuration like that.

    T,
What you have to remember is that most users just go with whats given to them.
They just want a system that works, regardless of the limitations

There are a lot of good points raised in this thread. However, the main point is that most actions done on your computer are Logged and that data transmitted to Microsoft when using a Windows device when you connect to the Internet.

From a legal perspective, by agreeing to Microsoft's Terms and Conditions, you are entering into a contract with Microsoft. One of those clauses being that the User agrees to data being sent to Microsoft. Another important clause which MS inserted into the contact was that Microsoft can change the contract at any time without informing you of the changes. There is no getting away from this if you want to use the Internet.

What most End Users are concerned about are:

    1. Exactly what Data is being collected?
    2. If Microsoft sell the Data collected, will it be detailed specific End User information (including exact location and personal
    details) or just generic information?

I have no objection to Microsoft collecting data on my Web Browsing activities and provide a 'better User experience'. However, if Microsoft are collecting more data and selling or providing detailed personal information to third parties than is necessary for this activity, then it is a cause for great concern.

Web browsing data is not an issue. Recording E/mails, voice calls, personal documents is another.

  9. People will eventually forget about it, just like they forgot about Google's EULA, which allows Google to collect any data, it wants, including reading emails and user's cloud content and share it with 3rd parties
