Windows 10: Win 10 Pro activation question

Hi,


I had a laptop that came with an OEM install of Windows 8.1 Home which I then upgraded to Win 10 Home via the free upgrade offered by Microsoft. Later I purchased an upgrade to Win 10 Pro from the Microsoftr online store and all this worked fine.


But now my laptop has died and I want to run Win 10 Pro on my new PC. I downloaded the Win 10 installation iso and installed manually but it's not picking up my Win 10 Pro digital license - even though I am signed in to my MS account.


I've looked online and I'm getting two conflicting points of view:

1) Some people say it should work as since I bought the upgrade to Pro I "own" a full Pro license.

2) Other people are saying I only "own" a Home->Pro upgrade and I need to buy a Home license and then it will automatically upgrade to Pro.


Who is correct? Do I need to buy a Home license or should my PC pick up my Pro license as-is?

I suggest that you use the TechNet forums for this particular issue. This forum is consumer-oriented (Win 10 Home, Pro). TechNet is IT oriented (Win 10, Pro, Enterprise, MSDN, Server 2012-R2, etc.).

 

Win 10 Pro Free Activation with Dual Boot Win 7 Pro

I have Win 7 Pro installed

I have installed Win10 Pro from ISO to separate partition

Dual boot is working fine

If I use my Win 7 Pro Activation Key to activate Win 10 Pro I have the following questions:

Will Win10 Activate for free?

Wil Win 7 continue to be usable?
