Windows 10: WIn 10 pro advance sales

I hope that isn't the case. Being self-employed, I don't have a "corporate" network (although I do have a business acct with my IP). I've always waited for updates to 'pan out' before installing them because of the issues that can occur.

 

Hopefully, this is and will remain true!

 

I got a small 10" lappy with W8.1 with BING. I hope the upgrade takes away "Bing", don't see anywhere that it will be carried forward.

 

Newegg has 10 for Pre-sale either as a USB drive or a DVD. They do not start processing pre-orders until the 30th. The price is $100. I am sure that Microsoft will have it a little cheaper over at "Ultimatesteal.com". Usually they sell it for $70 on there.

 

Yes again it is the same software that will be pushed out online. The ones who benefit from buying, vs. downloading, will be those with really slow Internet connections.

 

Defer Upgrades is not the same thing as Defer Updates. One is enhancements and new features, the other is security updates and patches etc. You can Defer Upgrades, but that has no effect on updates, you still get those when Microsoft pushes them via Windows update. If you get updates via Windows Update for Business, the IT guy decides when updates get pushed to PC's via the company network. Like how WUS works now. That's how I understand it. Some read it different so you may not agree with my surmising.

 

That is exactly how I understood it too, but recent articles seem to point in another direction. Some articles mentioned WUS as well, so it's just more ambiguity as far as I'm concerned.

The Learn more link from Settings ... just gives you Bing Search results. Not quite what I expected - maybe if the link was titled (Bing search results for "Defer upgrades in Windows")

Bing is built into W10 Search function.

Business customers have additional management options through the Windows Update for Business program, and enterprise customers can assign mission-critical devices to the Long Term Servicing Branch, which includes only security fixes and not feature updates.
And this is interesting, but again there's that ambiguity some Windows 10 editions. It would be a wonderful gesture is MS offered MSO to Insiders, but ....

Slartybart the version that includes Office, is the "Student" version, which is just a castrated version of 10 Enterprise.

 

Windows RT has some office programs included.
