It downloads the latest build 14388, then configures the updates and restarts.. after I see the "working on updates 0%" screen, it restarts again and reverts to previous build.. *Sad

Well you need to get more specific. Something is blocking the update process. In order to help you we need to know what changes have actually been done to your Windows installation. What tools have you used... Without such knowledge nobody will be able to help you.

Oh and by the way, if you are that much into customizing, why on earth do you use a preview version which can break any customization you might have made with any future update? Also, doesn't it appear a bit strange to you to run an preview version but at the same time you block updates? Seriously, if you want to customize that much of the GUI I really recommend sticking with the ordinary retail version.

My GUI is actually pretty simple. I use the old style taskbar with no pinned applications. I use the quick launch. These are both things I can do inside Windows itself without 3rd party stuff. Then I use Classic Start menu which is a simple application to get old style tree-based start menu. Last thing I've done is get rid of unnecessary stuff in file explorer, especially the horrible ribbon interface. Ok then I disabled lock screen with the clock and removed default picture from login screen (it's now just plain colour now).

Anyway, the build I had (11082) was working perfectly until this stupid expiration thing came about. It's been stable, works fast, boots up quickly and is very nice.

I don't know how I got into preview builds, if I could opt out the insider program, I would. But that seems impossible. I just updated my Win 7 to Win 10, did a couple of build updates and sticked with that.

Ok I somehow managed to install build 14366. Wow. Now if I could just disable that lock screen, it'd be a long way.. WinAero Tweaker doesn't work.

They say that from build 14271 disabling the lock screen only works on Enterprise, Education and whatever version.. great. Any workarounds or do I need to upgrade from Pro to Enterprise now? Seriously, Microsoft..

Opting out of the Insider program is done in the advanced update options, on my screenshot it would probably be somewhere below the text "Get Insider Preview builds". Mine is greyed out because I've applied some group policies (to stop automatic updates). It's where you can chose between the different "rings" (slow, fast...). There also has to be an option to opt out.

Really, jump off the preview wagon, stick to the regular build and wait until the upgrade is released. If MS really prevents disabling the lock screen there will almost certainly be a solution by one of the various tweaking genies out there. Maybe the developer of Winaero Tweak can adapt his program to work with the latest release. But for this to happen he must first get his hands on the final version.

Ok thanks everybody for still keeping faith in this thread. Where and how can I find out what the next retail/regular build is? Right now when I press on "opt out forever" it takes me to that guide on Microsoft's page, informing me I can only opt out if I have that specific build.. right now I'm on 14366. When is the next one I can opt out on?

PS. Now I cannot change the lock screen background, even. The settings app says "Some settings are managed by your organization". Everything is greyed out there. Wonderful.

When I was looking at this tutorial to see if it might work for you Insider Builds - Start or Stop Receiving in Windows 10 Option 2, it mentioned a temporary option to stop the insider program. Do you have that option? If so you might try that to see if you get any results.

Yes temporary option was there. If I do it, I want to make it permanent, or for as long as I can. Right now, I'm okay though.

I guess you can also opt out temporarily. As soon as you have reverted to the regular build you can still change the setting to permanent. And as far as I know you can always opt in again if you wish so at a later date. The latest regular build is 10586 (10.0.10586) by the way.
