Windows 10: Win 10 recovery from USB recovery drive failed at 75%

I tried recovering to a new HD in my HP 8001 tower. It had been intermittently failing to boot Win 10 x64. The "recover from device" failed at 75% from the USB drive I had created with this PC. I tried a recovery USB made from a Win 10 x64 notebook with the same result. I also have current system and data backups on a portable HD and a repair CD. Using the repair CD to restore the latest system image from the portable HD resulted in "The system image restore failed. Error details: The parameter is incorrect. 0x8000700057".

Win 10 Create Recovery Drive process fails to find thumb drive

After formatting a 4GB thumb drive and launching the Create Recovery Drive process via the Win 10 Control Panel Recovery option, it fails to list an available drive. Instead, it cranks for about 30 seconds and comes back with,

We can't create the recovery drive

A problem occurred while creating the recovery drive.

I've tried plugging the USB drive into both a 2.0 and 3.0 USB port: No difference.

I've tried inserting a fresh disc into my DVD drive: No luck there either.

I've created a Win 10 ISO file and re-installed the OS: No help.

Running out of ideas...

Not even that. What creating a recovery drive does (if you select 'include system files') is to construct the files required to clean install Windows. If this is made on an OEM install these file will include the OEM custom apps and drivers - effectively a 'factory reset' drive. It is extracting an install image from your existing system files that takes the time.

The steps in making a recovery drive are shown in this tutorial...

• first you choose whether or not to include system files (step 5 in tutorial)
• next the recovery drive files are constructed (this can take a long time if you include system files)
• only after that is complete will you be asked which usb to use (step 6 in tutorial). At this point you will be told how large a usb you need.

Without system files 512 Mb is sufficient. Including system files it will be just over 4GB.

At which step did you get the error? If you were not asked which usb to use then it was the construction of the system files that failed, nothing to do with what usb you had.

 

Recovery Drive Fail : Create a recovery drive fails in windows 10

I am using USB drive to create a recovery drive however it fails after running for 10 mins. I followed the instructions as per the below article.

But i get a screen as below that doesn't have any error details but simple message which says "We can't create the recovery drive".

Any suggestions or help would be highly appreciated.
