Windows 10: Win 10 Search failure after 1903 update

The first problem I had with the Win10 1903 update was deemed by Microsoft support to be a problem with an incomplete update. Microsoft fixed that by reinstalling the update. Since then my search on file names fails. Search on file CONTENTS does not fail. Rebuilding the index does not help (did this a couple of times). Various forum threads talk about reinstalling Cortana or disabling Cortana or some other Cortana-related fiddling. Nothing seems to help. All else seems to be ok in Win10.

Search on file names fails.

Search on file contents works.

You are missing an EFI partition too. Here's mine (1903) - note the 99Mb EFI partition:



- noting the Recovery partition is NTFS - not sure where the idea in that thread about FAT32 comes from.

Here are all the partitions - Disk Management omits the 16Mb one:




In the thread I quoted- not the most straightforward- it seems one basic step taken was to
a. Image 'C: '
b. Clean install Windows
c. Replace the new Windows partition by restoring it from the image created
d. (Note when rebooting, this may sort itself out via automated repair, or need Startup repair to be run)

you will find numerous references which may help.

 

Win 10 1803 to 1903 update

My Desktop computer running Win 10 updated from version 1803 to 1903 a while back, but my Desktop running Win 10 version 1803

I'm assuming the update 1803 to 1903 has now resumed after the earlier problems caused a suspension?

Any thoughts, suggestions?

 

IE11 Google Toolbar no auto search suggestions, no search history?


Since the last Win 10 update my Google Toolbar won't list any search suggestions as I type and there is no search history listed. The Google tool bar will allow a search, but after a few searches no search history shows and no "clear search" button is listed either.

I have turnd on "Suggest searches as you type", and "store search histroy on my computer" in the Google Toolbar options.

Any suggestions to fix this?
